SOURCE: SPARK PLUGS FULL OF OIL

Do you notice a puddle under the car? Or smoking when you shut it off? The rocker cover gaskets are the culprit. If you have the spark plugs in a well inside the rocker cover, the will fill up with oil and also leak out the back. You can replace the gaskets, a fairly easy job, you have to pull everything off the top of the engine to get the covers off. And they give you the new seals for the spark plug well with the gasket kit. They only go about 10 years, I replaced mine and they are starting to leak again. Hope this helps.

Changed spark plugs on a 2004 mazda found oil in the pistons #4#3#2#1 was no oil in it

You didn't find oil in the pistons, you found oil in the spark plug tubes. This is fairly common on older engines. Over time the seals in the valve cover begin to leak around the spark plug tubes. Oil then works it's way into the tube and settles in the bottom.

There is an easy fix. Simply replace the valve cover gasket.

Change sparkplugs

Oil is unlikely to be leaking out of a spark plug, more likely leaking on to it. Many things can cause this including a damaged head or leaking cover gasket. If oil is truely leaking out of the spark plug then your engine is either very worn or your valve oil seals are shot

Oil leaked into the sparkplug tube from the round valve cover seal at the top of the tube. Replace valve cover gasket with spark plug tube seals and problem will be solved.

You need to replace the spark plug tube seals in the valve cover. Very easy once you get the valve cover off. Make sure you get the valve cover gasket kit that includes the tube seals. Victor Reinz makes it: Part number VS50059

Sparkplug tube seals are leaking. You will need to remove the valve covers and replace the valve cover gaskets and the round seals in the middle of the cover. the tube seals should come with valve cover gaskets.

Cause of oil in sparkplug tube?

1.your valve cover's spark plug chamber seal is leaking. Which requires removing the valve covers and replacing the gaskets and seals. 2. Excessive oil spills on to the valve cover and ignition coils when adding oil.

**This excess oil on the plug boots can cause the coils to short and eventually fail.

Oil leaking into spark plug access tubes

The cover will need to be removed prepared for the new seal & re-sealed. When you look at the gasket set you'll need for the job, you will see the seals that keep oil from leaking in around the plug area. You'll also want to check & make sure you don't have back pressure coming from a converter that is going bad or has passed that point already, that's a major cause of seals to leak, that and the heat in the head of the engine caused by the exhaust blockage.

Good luck.

1999 Chrysler Sebring Coupe 2.5 oil in spark plug tubes. Replacing valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals at top of tubes. Concerned about bottom of tube. Is that an area that might also be...

It is possible the tubes are leaking at the bottom but highly unlikely. There is next to 0 oil pressure in that area so the tubes would actually drain if leaking. I would start with the tube seals and gaskets as you have already planned and check it again later down the road like at the next oil change interval. You're on the right track for the repair, just be patient with the intake plenum and you'll do fine.

Oil is leaking down in my sparkplug tube.

To fix this, the valve cover seal needs to be replaced. It is not the cover seal itself but the four rubber seals under the cover that keep oil out of your spark plug tubes. This is a simple fix and do not use silicone for any part of the repair.

remove rocker cover then remove spark plug tube they are screwed into head and clean thread of tube and apply sealant loctite to thread refit to head and may pay to replace seal for top of spark plug tube that is in rocker cover
one of these or both can leak, if tube is tight in head it may not be leaking the top seal is
