Sounds like your Starter is getting ready to Fail. Check the Battery Cables too For Tightness.

Why does starter keep cutting back out?

Need more info, sounds? Smells? not doing anything? year make and model may help?

so far with the info I have I can't assist very well.

if the starter is clicking instead of starting it could be low voltage (bad battery) poor connections (loose wires) soleniod going bad.

if the starter sounds like its free spinning and not engaging the engine that probably means the bendex is shot, (starter needs replaced)

If the starter has an intermitten fault (sometimes starts sometimes clicks of does nothing) I would lean towards the soleniod is going bad.

Why is my car not starting??

I had this problem.. on my carthe nutural safety switch its called a "combination switch" $175 So i put a push button on the dash which is wired from the battery to the starter.. now if it does not turn over i just turn on the key and push the button.. switch was $3. and about $3 worth of wire.. Works Great..

2010 ford edge starts intermittently. Replaced battery - doesn't try to crank - just nothing.

Problem with 1998 Honda Accord 2010 ford edge starts intermittently. Replaced no crank is
1: a weak battery (try different good one, or jumper cable it)
2: bad cables or conn. from battery to starter.
3: bad starter.
4: bad key line (alarm cut, PRNDL switch open, bad ignition switch.
Five minutes with any voltmeter finds this easy.
or or hot wire the starter solenoid, to cut the problem in 1/2
this proves problem is in starter or battery
or in Key line, in 5 min flat, (a 100 year old test )

there are very simple tests for each of the 4. ask.

I had recently had my engin redone VW Jetta 3 CL 1993 model, and when i got it back it was working perfectly, starting fine. 2weeks about after one moring off to work the car started fine but on going home...

Hi Rozanne, It could be a bad connection on the main cable from the battery to the starter motor. I'll need some more details from you though. 1) When you crank the engine is there a clicking sound comming from under the hood? 2) What do you mean by 'short cutting' it. 3) Is the starter turning when you try it on the cars own battery? Can you let me know all the different symptoms the vehicle has from when it worked well and the difference between now and then. Regards Johngee

Got a new battery yesterday on my 2000 Mit, but today it will not

Sounds like starter solenoid. Use a voltmeter and put it on B+ wire from starter relay to solenoid. Then crakk the vehicle . If your getting 12v there than its the starter solenoid. if there is no B+ there than check ign. switch, neutral safety switch, starter relay .
Good luck ..... you may want to give the battery a 3 min charge before testing.

04 Buick Rainer starting issues...

If it clicks and clicks, but eventually starts it sounds like a stuck starter, you can try hitting the starter a few times with a hammer. but it will likley need to be replaced

1994 Buick Park Ave won't start

The security system will keep it from turning over on that model. You need to try a 30 minute theft learn. Follow these instructions closely. Try to start the car, then leave the key on for 10 min. Turn the key off, 2 or 3 seconds. Turn the key back on, do not try to start the car this time, leave the key on for 10 min. Turn the key off again, turn it back to run, do not try to start it again, leave it for 10 more minutes. Then turn it off, and then try to crank it. If it is a security problem and it is not the ignition damaged it will crank. Good Luck. Mike From Texas.

1987 Ford Crown Victoria LTD

If it was an old police vehicle it has probably got an ignition kill switch located somewhere. This will have to be removed. And the wiring put back to factory standards. If not an old police car you are not getting voltage to the starter which is a bad relay. Do you get a clicking sound when you try to start? If yes, have someone keep hitting the start and listen and look for a relay under the hood.
