There is an electric motor that turns heater core on and off. It's located under the dash to the left of the glove box. Some disassembly required. The part will cost about $120 to $180. part number is #MR958603.

SOURCE: 2003 MITSUBISHI GALANT HOW TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT BULB

First you disconnect the 3 prong electric plug. To disconnect squeeze the side tabs together (hard) and pull away from the bulb, then you can pull off the protective rubber covering, (its a little snug so give it a tug from the 2 tabs on the top and bottom).

Next unscrew the little Phillips head screw to loosen the bracket that clips in the bulb (take note of how the clip is installed before you remove it, it holds the bulb securely in place).
Just loosen the screw as you do not need to remove it all the way. Pull out the old bulb and replace it with the new one.

The bulb has 3 spacing tabs on it so it can only go in one way. Make note of this when you remove it so you may replace it the same way. follow the steps in reverse and your done.
Note: The little wire clip that holds the bulb in can be a pain. Make sure you get a really good look at it, since it pops out as soon as you loosen the screw. If you get lost, you can always look at the other headlight. Oh, and don't do this in the dark.

SOURCE: where is the heater control valve locatedon a 2002 mitsubishi

Most heater control valves are on or near the firewall behind the engine. Look for coolant hoses attached to a small metal piece. It also will have an arm that has a cable from inside the vehicle attached to it.

2003 GALANT ES. HOT/COLD CONTROL WHEN PLACED ON FULL COLD MAKES CLICKING NOISE IN DASH. CAN ADJUST TO SLIGHTLY WARMER POSITION AND CLICKING STOPS. A/C & HEATER BOTH WORK FINE. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT...

I had the exact same problem, yes it was the heater control valve, the repair was 285.00. The tech that replaced it told me it is a common problem for the Galant. He said that if you keep your temp selector on either all hot or all cold that it keeps constant pressure on the plastic gear teeth in the valve. As they break off one by one you begin to hear that clicking noise as the dont catch. When you finally break off the last one it stops working.

According to him if you always leave the dial at least one notch from fully hot or fully cold you will not experience a failure of the switch

As for is it easily fixed.....no, the heater control valve needs to be replaced. I looked into doing it myself but thought better of it. Its buried deep in the dash and most of the passenger side must be removed and I still couldn't figure out how to get it out. I think it ended up costing me about 300 dollars to get it fixed by the shop.

I think I would just keep right on going until it quits.

No heat, heater core is good, blower moter works

Check the operation of the heater control valve. If it doesn't open up no heat. If the cable moves the control on the valve take the valve off and check it manually. The lever may work but the valve still doesn't open.
