Open Question

2003 lincoln navigator rumbling noise from the front center of the truck when accelerating from a stop? Already tries the wheel hub bearings, the differential, brakes, and mostly all the suspension components, checked the motor mounts and they seen fine for now.... I dont know what to do anymore going crazy!!! Help!!!!!

That works fine on a relatively new vehicle but one that has run in salt etc you'll save a lot of time if you remove the steering knuckle completey by separating lower ball joint and outer tie rod end ball joint and bring the whole steering knuckle to a bench to separate the hub/bearing. Soak everything with penetrant, loosen the bolts a few turns and try hitting right on the bolt heads. I also made a very sharp wedge from a chisel and rammed it hard on the other side to seoarate the hub. It will finally come apart then you'll see all the **** that was binding it due to an alumininum knuckle re-acting with a steel hub. Clean the hole and grease everything and fit new bearings

It sounds to me like your compressor got killed. What probably happened is that the airbag got a hole or tiny crack in it so the compressor has to work extra hard because it is like blowing up a balloon with a hole in it. Therefor the airbag killed the compressor. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at our conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. could be faulty compressor which pumps up the suspension,is it leaking from anywhere,causing the pump to work too hard,has it just packed up,check fuses but probably compressor

Will only tell if it is bad by removing the brake

If you have front wheel drive with drive axles as

On my lincoln rear drive- I could at least hear the side
that was bad from in the car & also had the 25 to 35 mph noise
Sound won't change at that speed if you take out of gear

sounds like a gearbox bearing ,,,this sounds like a growling noise usually when accelerating although as the problem gets worse it can happen constantly ,,, wheel bearings can growl too but will give a constant noise regardless of acceleration ,,, you need to see to this quickly as the more you drive you will cause more damage and cost to you ,,,,bearings will fix it in the early stages but if more damage is done you could have to pay for new gears and shafts which is expensive

The type of noise you report is consistent with wheel bearing failure. It is VERY difficult to determine failure simply by lifting wheel, and sensing play or roughness upon rotation. My experience tells me that bearing start to fail with a high pitch noise ( no play) and at later stages with a deeper rumble, and a tad of wheel play. From start of failure, to absolute disaster, like losing munitions / bearings, it might take like a 1000 miles or more. At earlier stages bearings will howl only when provoked, and will stop whining if you add more weight, or take off weight from them, such as in turns or heavy breaking.

My car makes a loud rumbling noise when i accelerate and gets louder as i go faster, if i turn my wheel slightly to the left all the noise and vibration stops and it sounds normal again


I believe the bearings in the front wheel are about to come to the end.
Have it checked in a garage.... NOW! otherwise you will be driving on 3 wheels... sooon.

Replacing front wheel bearings


fronts are bearing ahd hub assy remove the black center cover remove the hub nut and the hub should slide off. the caliper and rotor also have to be removed

2001 Sebring LXI convertable. Loud rumbling noise that increases as accelerating increases. Sounds like a rumble strip on the highway. I changed the tires with no change in the noise.


Bad hub bearing. Drive the car on a straght EMPTY road .@30 mph or when noise is audible, **** the wheel left than right (similar to a race car warming. tires) and listen if there is a change in the sound if so its a front bearing if not it should be a rear bearing .Jack the rear of the vehicle up and spin the tire holding onto the strut. Feel and listen for a vibration or noise. This should pinpoint that elusive noise.Let me know Good hunting

Yes it could be but to be sure, i would jack the car up and pull and push on the tire and see if it moves at all.

the problem with your truck is your knuckle bearings. I just replaced them on a friends truck and it sounds like the same problem. Just look on the inside of the front hub close to where the front axel attaches to the hub. If the seal is gone you will have a ring inside the hub on the axel shaft.

I have front end vibration that is not caused by alignment. New tires on all four wheels but still have alot of front end vibration. Car is a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon.

Front wheel hub assemblies and bearings control the position of, and reduce the resistance of, vehicle wheels in contact with the pavement. When they fail, front wheels may not be kept in position and vibration and noise usually develop. Symptoms that normally develop as a result of these worn parts include:
  • A humming, rumbling or growling noise which increases with acceleration or as the vehicles turns
  • Vibration felt in the steering wheel, which changes with vehicle speed or as the vehicle turns
  • Looseness or excessive play in the steering wheel (especially while driving over rough road surfaces)
  • A loud, constant grinding noise when driving the vehicle (heard in the most severe cases of a wheel bearing failure)
  • Pulling to one side when braking.
  • Roughness - with the vehicle of the ground, roughness or vibration when rotating the wheel
  • Looseness - with the vehicle off the ground, looseness when wiggling the wheel back and forth (Looseness may also indicate a worn ball joint)
  • Excessive brake pedal play can also indicate sloppy or excessively loose wheel bearings
  • ABS failure in the system may be related to failure of the ABS sensor in the hub assembly or the internal sensor in the wheel bearing
