Give the key-hole a few days to dry out. There are electronics inside the key-hole that sense the key's position and the immobilizer chip within the key. If these short out, or any other circuits with them, the car won't start/run properly.
OK, obvious first: turn it the other way. Don't laugh, I've done this.
Otherwise, barrel is jammed. Get a new barrel, dismantle the steering column and replace the existing one. You'll now need two keys: one to unlock the car and one for the ignition. You won't be the first.
If the wrong key was inserted it may have bent a tumbler pin,maybe try some wd-40 or similar and work it with the right key,might drop the tumbler back,,if not the whole ign. cylinder will have to be changed
Either steering is got stuck, try wiggling the steering wheel a bit, then try.Or the car is not in park mode.Check that.If its in park mode.Then try another key, if you have one.In most cases car owners have 2 to 3 car keys.Try with another key and see if its working.But if its not working with other key, then problem is ignition cylinder.--

Key Stuck in Ignition, Key Will Not Return to Off Position, Shifter Button Won't Release in Park Position (Adjust Shifter Detent Finger)

Customers may comment on any of the following conditions:
- The key is stuck in the ignition cylinder.
- They cannot return the key to the off position to remove the key.
- The shifter button won't release in the park position.
This condition may be caused by the detent finger shifting over time. This may result in mis-alignment and binding of the shift rod on the shift position guide.
