you need to pull the cover off the rear diff. remove the rear brake drums or rotors, remove the bolt that holds the pin in the rear end, remove the pin, remoce the c clips, pull the axles out. remove the seal. you can do this by using one ofthe axles to pry the seal out. install the new seal and reassemble. use rtv sealant to reseal rear diff and fill with about 3 - 3 1/2 qts gear lube-may take synthetic

This is where you fluid goes. If I were you, I would stay away from those sealants. But yes you can put the sealant in the reserve, but it;s best if you drain half the water out, pour in coolant and then re-fill. This gives it a better chance to flow throughout the system. Sometimes these sealants can cause more harm than good in the long run.

If the speedometer itself is currently working fine, it may be that the Odometer and Trip-o-meter gears are broken. Lincolns OnLine have a large database of information regarding Town Cars from all years. This specific link will help you to order and replace the proper gears for your car.
