Reset the computer by disconnecting the battery. This should solve this. nutetral is for the four lo only to engage.

SOURCE: 2005 chevy colorado four wheel

Hi,before you can make any repairs on your car, you have to start from the blinking light. The flashing/blinking lights indicate a fault code is stored in the drive train control module. Retrieving the code will pinpoint the malfunctioning component which will inturn fix the four wheel drive problem. You have to scan your car with a OBD II scanner if you have one or take it to any auto zone near you to have it scanned for free and a code will be retrieve and interpreted to pinpoint and fix the problem....

Does my 2003 ford explorer sport have front wheel drive, rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. my email is kmmock1@gmail.com

it is most likely an automatic awd, 4 hi is full time 4 wheel drive, 4 lo is full time 4 wheel drive but at a very low gear ratio and should not exceed 25 mph or could cause damage. and DO NOT shift into 4 lo while vehicle is in motion. Auto is a 2 wheel drive but automatically engages into 4 wheel drive under heavy acceleration.

Your transfer case encoder motor [the thing that shifts the transfer case] is located on the LH side of the transfer case. I believe the control module should be located behind the dash near the light switch area.
If it stays in 4-Lo and the push button indicator just flashes for a while when you select, say, 2 Hi then stops blinking and goes back to the 4-Lo position then I would have someone hook up and check to see what service codes are present. I see a lot of encoder position sensors go bad but you really need a scan tool hooked up to the system to be able to watch what is happening as the shift is attempted. There aren't any vacuum controls on this system.
Hope this helps you out a bit!

How do i use the "Hi/Lo" "shifter" in this 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser, what is it for? Why would i change it? I have driven this car for a long time now and never use i do i need to?

The hi/lo is a function of the 4 wheel drive on the vehicle. The hi ratio would be used when negotiating sand or mud for instance and the lo for steep inclines where more power is needed. This is like having a gear with better pulling ability than first gear. You will find driving in 2nd gear lo will give you the same speed as 1st gear high.
Do not engage the four wheel drive system when driving on hard surfaces ie tarmac or concrete. Use it only on surfaces where additional traction may be needed. It is a good idea to use the 4 wheel drive system at least once a month in order to lubricate those parts of the 4 wheel drive system that would otherwise be "dormant" when in 2 wheel drive.
If you have diff lock funtion on the vehicle it would be a good to idea to engege this as well but once again only on a soft surface. The reason being that the centre diff lock tends to bind and stay engaged due to it not being properly lubricated.
If it does bind(dash indicator stays lit) find a patch of grass or sand, engage reverse and drive a couple feet. If this does not disengage the lock turn the steering fully left or right and drive in a circle. This should then disengage the difflock.

4 wheel drive will not disengage.

If you have tried shifting stopped and moving, then I'd say the transfer servo could be broken. It is the motor on the transfer case that shifts it in and out of four wheel drive. If you know how to use a voltmeter, test the wires that run to the servo to see if it is getting the signals it should be. Newer vehicles usually have a computer associated with the transfer case motor. You could have the car plugged to a tester at auto zone to see if it is giving a code.
