Strong Gasoline smell after my CRV motor is turned off

I have a 2002 CVR. I always secure the gas cap. The Honda dealer checked for leaks and found none. They recommend that i not buy cheap gas. I disagree. I never had this problem with my 2000 CRV.

Since this CRV has 92000 plus miles, could it be a fuel filter problem? Is there a fuel filter near the gas tank? Thanks...

02 CRV. I have a stong gas smell coming from under car after driving at least 20 minutes and parking in garage. I've replaced fuel cap, fuel filler neck, charcoal filter and fuel pump seal. When I lift the access panel to the fuel pump, I can smell gas. Ideas?

For a Honda CRV 2009, how do I fix the "check gas cap" error message, after buying a new $40 honda gas cap?

The best way to fined out what is leaking is to have a smoke test done at the gas tank, now the gas cap could be fine but the filler neck could be rusted and leaking and you may get the same message as there is NO pressure being created in the gas tank.

The malfunction light has come on now what to do

first ,go check your gas cap, make sure its on tight(3-4 clicks) drive vehicle if light still on, replace cap.if this cures it,your good to go. If it still on go to autozone, ask them to pull the the OBD2 Code they will do this for free. or go to walmart buy you an OBD2 reader (18-20.00) check it yourself. maybe somthing you can repair yourself real cheap.

My 2004 cvr honda is using preston i cant find where its going not in the oil but no sicns of leakage on motor

Could be heater core leak, check under floor mat on passenger side front seat. This is where you'll find the coolant if your core is leaking.

Error code 340 & 457

  • P0340 - Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction.
  • P0457 - Evaporative emission control system leak detected (fuel filler cap loose/off)

There is a bulletin #0398 posted on 05/12/2003 for P0457 - Malfunction indicator lamp (mil) illumination with diagnostic trouble codes p0442, p0455, p0456, p0457, p1442 or check fuel cap lamp illuminated with diagnostic trouble code p0457.

I'd suggest checking with your local dealer, as it may be a fix that is covered by the dealer.

Check fuel cap light staying on after I replaced it with a new one from the dealer. It is a 2002 Ford Escort Any suggestions:

Is the check engine light on also ?
The gas cap light comes on when the computer tries to vent the gas tank and finds a leak. The leak can be the gas cap or in the line from the tank to the vapor canister, among other things.

Car runs very ruff. computer says small emissions leak.I have replaced gas cap, this helped for 1 day. now check engine lite is on again.

Did you erase the code after you repaired the problem ??..Emission leaks are usually not affective
to the engine performance...But a gas cap is for some reason...You actually need an emission
leak tester hooked to it ...Or a DRB III eng. analysis tool....I am chrysler tech.....
But normally emission troubles wont make it run rough unless it is very bad !
It may be your O2 sensor.Doublecheck gas cap security.....make sure old code is cleared before you make any more adjustments....Check engine for any vacum leaks...This could be the problem....Because it shouldnt run good for a day after changing only the gas cap...
Make sure all electrical connections ( PLUGS/WIRES/INJ.CONNECTIONS...etc..) are good...
You may have to take to dealer to clear codes and recheck.....Maybe update PCM
Hope this helps.......................................Level II CHRYSLER ..................Metalpoet

Check all of your EVAP lines and the charcoal canister. Also check the lines and overflow line from the gas cap to the gas tank.
