pick up a haynes manual for the car and lookup the wiring diagram. if it is not a fuse you now have a manual to look up for possible breaks in the wire

Hi as the car is still covered under warranty take it back to the dealer and get them to do it FOC,probably just a micro switch needs setting up .

All gas charged supports are not created equal. I recommend using O.E. for this application.
Snow,ice and trapped water make the lid heavier than it should be make sure these are not the issue.

I believe it's electric. It sounds like the motor is going bad. In theory, it would be harder for the motor to lift it, than it would to lower it.
