My engine failure light has just come in my 2004 xtype estate what could the problem be?

The engine light came on because it is telling you that something is wrong somewhere with engine area so what you can do is take it to Advance Auto Parts store near you and have them check it out for free or you can buy the OBD II code sensor so you can test out the codes yourself. Without the OBD II codes that we would be guessing so you have to check it out with OBD II code reader.

Sounds like it is a "lean" pop. Do you have any engine check lights on the dash ? Plug in an OBD II reader to find any codes.
