Your shifter cables have gona bad, i had the same problem and its not your clutch thats causing the problem. Your shifter cables are just worn out and you need to replace them

SOURCE: transmission

dose the car have a o/d button

if so it sounds like the end clutch has died in the auto and you will need to go to a auto specialist.

check you auto oil level first and go from there

SOURCE: 1998 mitsubishi l200 jumpsout of 1st 3rd 5th

Sounds like a failed bearing or bad syncronizers. Will require trans disassembly to determine failure.

SOURCE: cant get 1st gear. 2nd gear nosiey and crunches,

check the gear linkage first for smooth operation, then check/or change your gearbox fluid with the following (before going and ordering a gearbox rebuild - it's much cheaper). Make sure you have it filled to the correct level (see below).

The reverse switch is located on the gearbox, and the switch I have heard, do fail (or you have a short in it's wiring).
Manual transaxle and transfer case:
Hypoid Gear Oil, SAE 75W-90 or 75W-85W conforming to API classification GL-4

Rear differential:
Hypoid Gear Oil API classification GL-5 or higher

Above -23ºC (-10ºF)
SAE 90, 85W-90, 80W-90
From -34ºC (-30ºF) to -23ºC (-10ºF)
SAE 80W, 80W-90
Below -34ºC (-30ºF)
SAE 75W

Lubricant capacities (from the service manuals)
Manual transaxle [to bottom of filler hole]:
FWD: 2.3 L (2.4 qts)
AWD: 2.4 L (2.5 qts)

My 1995 nissan p/u v6 4x4 manual trans makes a sandpaper-type-grindng noise in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and reverse, but is quiet as a church mouse in 4th gear. No vibrations; no shift problems (up or down); no...

the noise is probably a lower counter shaft bearing, the reason you don't hear it in 4th is because 4th is the only gear that does not use the counter shaft. there is no easy way of fixing it it is the first part installed when the trans. is assembled and the last thing removed when the trans. is disassembled.....SORRY

What would be causing gears to pop out. At first it was 3rd and 5th gears. I changed the clutch now it wont take 4th at all and 5th continues to pop out (must hold it in) 3rd doesn't pop anymore but grinds...

You probably need to rebuild the transmission, and look for gears that have been damaged, synchronizers that have failed, and worn parts in general.
The clutch has no bearing on whether the tranny slips out of gear.
