You must have the dealer scan the system, this takes a very expensive tool and the skills to understand the result's, there is no generic fix all, it takes careful diagnostics by a trained professional to fix these new computer controlled systems. Very few have the skills and fewer the required tools to do the testing. So sorry but i stand by the response i first gave. I do not build these just give the needed info to get them diagnosed and repaired.

Have also had same problem, green light flashing on my isuzu trooper 3.0
check to see if drive prop shaft is engaged firstly, first step for front wheels engaging, then 2 more solenoids are under engine front of jeep, one coloured blue one grey, these work with vacuum, if i remember blue for engaging drive grey for disengaging, inside solinoids small tiny piston, could be stuck as mine was, can be taken apart & cleaned, reason sticking is moist in vacuum system, & not being used as 4 wheel drive until winter months, hope this helps

Check for a blockage in the vacuum port on the vacuum diaphragm Located on the front axle drivers side. If the port is clogged the front hubs will not lock/engage and the 4 will drive light on the dash is flashing. Use a small drill bit to clear and clean the rust clogging the port. Hope this helps someone.

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Antilock brake system.TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module

You can't fix this at home without the electronics testing tools and e factory repair manual. I am a dealer mechanic and I am very good at what I do and have never wasted anyone's money, unless they choose not to fix the car because it was not worth the cost of a repair..

Ok well is there any way you could pinpoint the problem by your experience if i tell you all the symptoms and the checks i have done.Just so you know i manually diagnosed it using the diagnostic plug and a paper clip/wire joing terminals and counting flashes of the check engine light and there was only 1 code displayed which had nothing to do with the 4x4 system.it was (a glow plug short/circuit open).i really believe i have most of the system checked out but i just havent found the problem.i know from my own experience and from mechanics i know that this can be fixed without bringing to a main dealer.all i need is someone who is willing and able to give me the correct knowledge of the possible causes of these symptoms.cant budge 4high/low gear stick and encoder motor on transfer box does not make the engagement sound like other same jeeps do.i think this system works from the dash switch to the transfer case and then to the front axle and i think the problem is somewhere there.why is there no engagement sound from transfer case motor when i push in the 4x4 button in or out all i can hear is the dash switch click and its relays in the black plastic box which is under the radio behind the plastic dash which holds the ashtray.that plastic box makes 1 click when i push in button and then after about 3/4 seconds i hear another click from it but nothing else at all.please if you can point me in the right direction as in what part is causing this trouble it would be highly appreciated.we have enough financial problems without costing ourselves more that is not needed.PLEASE HELP!!

Denis why do you think people come on to this site?obviously its to ask if someone can fix ya problem or help ya fix it?now i am not a 1 year old child and i am pretty sure that someone somewhere in this world has the know how to fix my problem without using a computer, even someone who has used a computer before could most probably fix the same problem again without using the computer.and if the diagnostic tool was out 30 years surely someone has used it to fix this problem by now.using the computer is prob the fastest, easiest and expensive way to trace 1 problem or 10 different problems but there are other ways and like i said in the beginning i have not got the money to fix this by bringing it to a dealer.if you are so good at what you do i dont no why u need a computer and at the same time you cant see the sense in what im saying or the truth.as far as i am concerned this is the computer and the only one il be using which im writing on at d min and im no mr. perfect.they also dont sell the repair manual for this type of vehicle in shops in my country.i need a credit card to buy it over the internet.thank you again for all of your help Denis but i already new that a computer was an option, which i couldnt and cant consider right now.has anyone else any other suggestions without been short with me.obviously i wouldn have come on here looking for help if i was able to afford a diagnostic check and repair.PLEASE HELP!

SOURCE: tod system on 98 bighorn

check out detent limit switches on gear box and transfer case for continuity and open circuit when pressed(on /off switch) these are feed back signals to indicate it has locked into 4x4 or 2x4, if one of these dont work properly system locks up and wont do anything any more. also check front one on diff near actuator, common problem. check actuator is working properly when vacuum applied and removed. can remove this and bench test unit, some oil will be lost when removed for bench test and you can check colar inside diff slides back and forth to lock axle.

SOURCE: I have flashing 4wd light

You can check the continuity of the VSV assembly units you are working with (what you are referring to as blue and white).

Inspection (1) - Remove the connector, shift transfer lever to 2H and start the engine. Make sure there is continuity in the vehicle side of the harness. If there is none, check the transfer shift switch and wiring.

Inspection (2) - Inspect both VSV units as follows:
A) With battery not connected
Measure A-C for continuity, B is closed
B) With battery connected
Measure A-B for continuity, C is closed.

If either A) or B) fail, replace the VSV unit.

How do you engage and disengage 4 wheel drive on a isuzu trooper 3.0 year 2000

Hi. On the central console under the air went openings is a line of buttons - triangle-awd-motor heater-rear washer-rear heater... Just push AWD button and you must see a green symbol on the instruments down left corner first blinking and, if gears are switched right, steady lighting. Turn off the same way, but must first the HI-LO lever turn back to HI if you did use the LO gear.

My 98 trooper doesn't seem to have four wheel drive, the dash light blinks, but it doesn't seem to spin all four in the mud so I can't tell if its working, does this light just blink? Or should it stay...

I belive that it should stay constentley light. Try to put it into 4 wheel drive. Put it in reverse back up about 10' Put it back in drive and see if it works...Best of luck

I have a 1999 Isuzu Trooper and when I hit the auto 4 wheel drive button it blinks and doesn't engage. The 4 wheel drive works fine. Any ideas what the problem maybe??

While driving, apply the foot brake and press the 4x4 button. If it engages, it can be bad auto locking hubs, or a bad torque converter. This is the same problem I am having right now but I was able to the get the 4x4 to work by doing what I described above. I am going to take off the wheels and check the hubs and eventually work toward the torque converter. I'll keep you updated.

1998 isuzu trooper torque on demand lights go off when truck stops moving

It is Torque On Demand. When you are stopped there is no need for the front end to be engaged, no demand. Once you start moving, the lights should begin working as the demand for four wheel drive engagement increases, if the conditions require four wheel drive. It's the way the system works. Enjoy!
