Hi Leroy, Try to recall under which driving conditions the fault occurs? I'm guessing that the problem comes when you try to open it up some. In that case the fault can be coming from the mass air flow sensor or a short in the Throttle Position Sensor. It would help to know what engine is fitted and if it's petrol or diesel? The fault seems to be coming from one of the sensors, not the computer as such, but the fault is obviously affecting the computer. Let's get some more details on the problem? Have a look at the wiring for each of the sensors and look for any obvious signs of short circuits. Don't forget the Lumda and oxygen sensor's. Let me know what you find 'cause I'll be waiting. Regards John .

SOURCE: Continuous Blown Fuse

You have a short. With these Xterras it is most likely from one of the front side markers rubbing the bumper support. Is the front bumper pushed in or damaged in anyway if so check the wiring to these lamps. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Location of Turn signal flasher for 95 Nissan 4wd 4cyl MT

Found it!! - It is indeed under the dash, directly above the clutch pedal arm and attached to the brake support bracket. The original one was black and NOT round. It's about 1.5 inches long and 1 inch square. The three wires drop down out of the bottom and there is a connector release you have to push to release the wires. The flasher relay itself can slide off the mounting point, with a little extra pressure, pushing towards the left side (outward) of the truck. (left hand drive models).

SOURCE: 2001 Nissan Maxima computer fried, any recalls?

Iac valves short out and fry the computer. Be sure to check and replace the Idle air control valve if needed. If not replaced the computer will fry. Generally it costs less to program a used one than get a new one.

Car was running fine, parked at grocery for 30 minutes, came out started car and it smelled like something burning and now won't idle and is making a strange noise. where should I start ??

Your first concern should be the engine. If it has suffered any internal damage. Try to identify the strange noise and its source. If the engine is still good, check your engine wiring harness carefully. Was the burning smell of an electrical nature? Some wires may have burned-insulation may be bubbled, burnt looking, wires exposed, plastic melted-look for things like that. There may be no trouble codes set from this event, but you should have an engine computer scan just to be sure. Any codes may indicate the problem.
If nothing obvious, you may need a mechanic to check it out. I would want a cylinder compression test done to gauge engine condition before attempted repairs-with 230K on an escort engine (remarkable!), you should want a good idea of the engine's present condition before proceeding.

I have to add oil between oil changes, I can't find any leaks and don't smell burnt oil. Also my truck only has 58,000 miles, where's the oil going?

How many miles are you doing per top up ml?

it is nt uncommon to have to top up by half a litre of oil or so between servies. Also the harder you drive the car the more oil it will burn as there is more crankcase wear and also more heat produced. If there is no leak its burning it im afraid, there is no other explanations

How often change oil in transmission

the book says every 30k Miles, However My buddy that owns a tranny shop tells me that checking the fluid and smelling it, if its discolored change it, if it smells burnt change it, if you see tiny air bubbles on the dipstick change it , Normal operating temp of a transmission is 215 degrees, heat varies by type of use, at a constant 215 degrees you can run then 100k miles, but for each 20 degrees it cuts that in half, myself I change mine the minute I smell any thing like a burnt smell, which is usually around 50k Miles, and I drive my vehicles pretty hard , and I don't have a transmission cooler

Well it's temping to put in biggfer fuses as the problem gets worse but the size of the fuses are to keep you from burning things up so you've from your probem with a 30 amp smoke test. The raditor fan wire is melted somewhere in the wire harnes to the wire for the trck lock or even key on circirts. the likly place to look is inside the stering collum. It takes the skills of removing the steering whel and the lcok plate and even then thats does'nt have to be where the problem is. You need to look under the dash after you remove the covers and use you nose to smeel for the burnt wiring and open up any thing the smells like it's been hot and anything the appers melted together. once a harness is found melted you need to seragete all the wires in the loom but don't cut the wires justy seaparte them. once you think you've got then all pulled apart so no bear wires touch each other or any meal parts put in the correct size fuses and see if you can connect the battery with out a spark. if you can you may then start checking to see what works and what does'nt.. This all sounds like too much work or too hard to do then you'll need to pay someone theat knows alot about car wiring problems to do it for you. I'll been doing this kind of work for the last 20 years and a'm alawys finding new things that are fried and burnt up. We all charge by the hour to do this work so the most experieced mechanic that works on cars like yours will probly find and fix the problem the fastest. therefore they may charge more per hour but their likly to get it right quicker and it'll stay fixed after they fix it.. This is the most likly kind of work to go sour after it's fixed cause they might miss a circuit that you use and they did'nt try. and as soon as it burns again it's back to the drawing board and if big fuses are use the fire can take the whole car.

Look under the dash on the passenger side and under the hood more closely for burnt wires to the computer. If the computer has burnt wires to the instrument panel, then you found the problem.

More than likely it did, if you can check the Engine Oil Dipstick see if there are any signs of water in the oil, when an engine is overheated the Head gaskets get burned and the water starts to go into the engine where the oil runs. Good Luck.

Do I really need to flush the transmission?

Smell the fluid. If it's burnt it will smell burnt. 60,000 is the average. Depends on how you drive. You can run your trans till it quits or try and prolong it's life. Oil is cheep insurance, but it's your car and the final decision is up to you.
