check your fuse. the dash computer works of a permit live, and also is the memory live for the original radio. i would think it would be a 10amp fuse. in one of the fuse boxes.

What is causing a short?

The live wire from the battery goes to the fuse box and the covering could be worn through before the fuse box. There are also keep alive things that could be the problem like the radio

Would my computer box for my 1999, Land Rover-Rangerover 4.6 L HSE burn if a couple chafed live-wires under the fuse box in the engine compartment grounds out on the body?

there should be a fuse for the power supply for the ECM. However if you know of the chaffed wires then it is best that you do something about it . If the power wires are before the fuses then there could be an electrical fire and after the fuse then you will keep blowing fuses and stop what ever those wires support.

My 2001 R1100R suddenly lost all electrical power after a ride. There is no power to the instruments or anything else when I turn the key. The battery was replaced several weeks before this occurred.

check the earth terminals the lead from the battery to the chassis possibly remove the bolt and clean the paint work off so the wire when bolted back touches clean metal.
also check the posative or live lead follow it to where it joins the starter or starter solenoid and again clean and tighen.
get a test light or multi meter set to volts dc and check there is power at the fuse box put one lead onto a clean point on the body work for example a door hinge and the other lead to one of the fuse terminals on the fuse box there is normaly one set of fuses live all the time with the ignition off and one or more that goes live with the igniton on if the power is getting to the fuse box the problem is more complex hope this helps

Fuse box location

BMW fuse boxes are generally located in a little drop-down shelf that lives in the glove box. Open up the glove box and look on the "ceiling" of it for a little toggle that allows the fuse panel to fall down. 913c60f8-cbcc-475c-acc6-7aa3337dbcc8.jpg

Winshield washer not working is their a fuse for this

There's a 20amp(fuse#20) fuse box on driver feet that control both wiper and washer. If the wiper is working, then it's not the fuse. It might be your washer motor, but if you live in WI live me. Your washer fluid might have frozen.

Fitted a new fuse box

then the fault is deeper...
There are a few "fusible links" (Read BIG FUSES) under the bonnet, check if any of these are blown theyre under a flat-topped black or clear box (you know the type) , if you had a bad fusebox then these fuses are there to protect your car, check them out... They are 10, 20, 30, and 60AMPs I think, stocked at all auto shops.

Main Fuel Pump

Fuses mean short somewhere.Fuse is always live it feeds relay but in tank pump [ fuse#4or#6 i forget anyway visa versa ] is not live until this.Relay clicks once when key tuned to on and once more when key turned to crank engine it is under dash by glove box and loud enough for someone with ear at this spot to hear.In tank pump should not be live until engine starts to crank.
