SOURCE: 1999 Toyota Tacoma Passsenger Mirror Replacement

Pull off the 'sail piece' trim on the inside from where the mirror mounts- There's three bolts behind it that secure the mirror to the door. make sure you get the gasket lined up properly when remounting the mirror.

Cheers!

SOURCE: How do you get the shifter off of a 1994 toyota

Don't know on that exact one but in general you just have too remove any console in the way, unscrew the knob, remove the shifter boot, put it in neutral and remove the bolts from the top cap and pull the shifter straight up. I have seen some that you had too lift the cap and remove a pin going thru the swivel ball from side to side that holds the shifter in place. Just make sure that nothing falls out and into the transmission. Go slow, have a good light and be careful. When you put the shifter back in make sure it drops back in exactly as it came out, Don't let it get on the wrong side of the forks and forcing it can break off the tip of the shifter. It generally is not a difficult thing to do once you figure out how to get the center console and boot out of the way.
On most Toyota truck straight shifts the problems that I have seen (jumping out of gear & refusing to go into 1st or 2nd) are a little deeper than the shifter bushing. I'm not a transmission specialist so anything any deeper went too the guy 2 bays down.
Most mechanic work is just common sense and a LACK of force!

1996 tacoma truck jumps out of 3rd. gear and sometimes 2nd. when I let off gas

up under the shifter there is a rubber bushing that goes into the bottom of the shifter housing that will start coming apart due to heat and age and on the end of the shifter itself there is a plastic bushing that i would also replace when you take it apart....this is the most likely problem that i have seen in the 20 + yrs that i have worked on toyota and lexus......this would be the first and cheapest step to start with and that i would start with......the only place that i have bought these parts is at the dealer and tell them you need the shifter bushings one for the end of the shifter and the one that goes in the shifter housing......all you have to do to change these is take the cover out from around the shifter and the screws that holds the metal plate for the boot and then take two screwdrivers and take one to press down on the center of the shifter and the other to turn the center part to release the spring....i hope that this will help you and if you need more info let me know......also if you could let me and fixya know if i was able to help you in any way.....also a thumbs up and a comment would be appreciated......thanks and have a blessed day.....

In a 1999 toyota tacoma sr5 prerunner what can

Usually the key is either worn, but usually the steering is locked. To unlock the steering, muscle the steering one direction while turning the key with the other hand. Your other concern may be related to the first. For the shifter to be able to shift. The shift lock has to be activated. The way this happens is when the ignition is on and the brake is depressed or if the shift lock override button is depressed and shifted at the same time. This button is usually under a cover at the base od the shifter if a floor shifter. Hope this helps,

Whats the easiest way to change the starter on a 1999 Toyota Tacoma?

Remove the driver side front wheel was the best way to gain access to the starter which is right there. After removing the bolts there was a lot of twisting to get it out.

Have a great day!

Shifting problems

start with the clutch fluid, is it full? check the clutch cable from the pedal to the transmission, does it have a lot of play in it, is it adjustable? check the bushings on the shifter base, does the shifter itself have a lot of play in it? i'd start with those, if all those are ok then it might be the clutch itself. when a clutch gets worn down it doesn't release fully causing a hard shift or grinding when going into gear. put the truck on a flat surface so it doesn't free roll at all, with the engine off, put the truck in first or reverse, press the clutch pedal fully to the floor and start the engine. let off the brake. if the truck moves at all it means your clutch cable is out of adjustment or its just getting worn out. provifing the shifter and the fluid level is good.
