Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 97 cavalier with the 2.2 and 5 speed. It misses when accelerating but if you put the pedal to the floor it stopsand accelerates like it should. But if it sits for a couple days itwill start and run fine for a while then eventually act up. I have replaced a lot of parts and getting sick of it costing me a lot of money. Can someone help me. Ive replaced the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, crank sensor plugs with bosch timing belt, tps sensor.

If you went to a repair shop in the first place, you
would not have spent as much, possibly

Unless you understand how to locate a failing system
& then how to component test the items in it,your just
throwing parts & money at it.

Ideally you buy ALL the OE Factory Manuals when ever
you get a different vehicle & study them.

I would put a professional scan tool on it & go for a test drive,
until the problem surfaces & then look at the data

You need two people to that

As old as it is, I would also start with a cylinder leak down test
& check it's mechanical integrity.

Is the missing a fuel issue, ignition or vacuum including evap

Does it just act up when monitors run ?

Is the fuel pump in there for 14 years?

Have to go thru the entire car testing as you go

E201@yahoo.comi have a 2004 cavalier with the 2.2 eng the check eng light stay on an it alos blinks..the car has a miss in it while idiling or accelerating but at a stedy speed it runs fine an has good...

well the light is blinking because of the misfire it is setting a P0300 engine missfire detected, a plugged fuel injector will cause that misfire or a incorrectly gapped spark plug, also a bad egr valve will cause a rough idle and acceleration problems.but for a correct fix with out throwing parts at it will have to be done by a pro
