COULD OVERFILLING MY OIL DURING AND OIL CHANGE DAMAGE THE ELECTRICAL OF MY CHEVY AVEO?

AFTER GETTING AN OIL CHANGE, THEY INFORMED ME THEY OVERFILLED THE OIL, DRAINED IT AND REFILLED. OF COURSE, THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE AND BUCKING FOR A WHILE. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS. THEY WERE FOULED. EVER SINCE THEN MY CLOCK HAS BEEN LOSING TIME. IT WON'T STAY SET. MY BATTERY DIED AND WOULD NOT HOLD A CHARGE. I GOT A NEW BATTERY BUT I'M STILL LOSING TIME!!! I ALSO ATTACHED THAT "SNAPSHOT" DEVICE FROM PROGRESSIVE INS. ON MY VEHICLE, BUT THIS PROBLEM EXISTED BEFORE THAT. ANY INSIGHT?

Overfilling will not damage the electronics
you have other electrical problems

SOURCE: 2006 chevy aveo. the dipstick reads oil is full.

You have oil in the plug holes because the seals that are supposed to keep oil out are leaking-you need to remove the valve cover to replace them.

Local oil change shop did 20% overfill on 2.0L engine... Now nothing but problems. Engine spewed oil everywhere. Couldn't find any leaks. Now overheated x1, and low bass-like sound. (Fried?)

Few engines of my experience would be damaged by only a 20% overfill. The capacity of a typical 2.0 litre engine is around 5 litres so a 20% overfill would make only 1 litre above maximum.
As the engine would be designed to have additional oil pan capacity and probably be baffled to cope with oil swill during cornering and braking, while an extra 1 litre MIGHT make a bit of a mess it would be unlikely to have any lasting adverse effect unless it entered the intake via the breather system when it could seriously shorten the life of the oxygen sensor and CAT.

Lots of folk have topped up their oil without reference to the dipstick and raised the level by far more than your own without ill effect...
Lots of folk have topped up their oil and forgotten to replace the oil cap and had oil spewed everywhere but after a good wash down, an oil top up and a new cap the problem is ended.

We once had an apprentice who was told to fill an engine with oil and he did, literally and to the very top. It started and ran for a short time but sustained no damage.

The obvious conclusion is they actually overfilled the engine by a great deal more than 20% and/or they perhaps caused another problem and/or the law of sod conspired with events and you are a victim of coincidence.

An engine must be carefully washed down in order to have a fighting chance to locate an oil leak but then any leak should become fairly obvious. While the low bass-sound is the typical sound of an engine without an oil filler or with an open or detached crankcase breather, I can think of no connection between the overfill and any resulting mess and the overheating.

If you paid a repair shop to perform a service, you made a contract with them. If the service wasn't performed satisfactorily they are in breach of their contract with you. You should return the car to them and tell them to put it right free of charge. A respectable repair shop would be pleased to do that.

2005 chevy aveo was overfilled with oil at the last change. It was estimated to be around 1 1/2 to 2 quarts when then the car had a major issue 4 days after the oil change. According to my mom (who was...

too much oil can cause the crankshaft or camshaft to drag which can cause the timing belt to slip.
If you are lucky replace the timing belt and start it up. It will run badly and smoke a bit but will clear, hopefully nothing collided when the belt slipped.
The timing belt is something that any competent home mechanic can change, it just takes time.
Sorry to hear about another rip off dealer.

Will overfilling oil during an oil change cause the valve cover gasket to leak oil into the spark plugs

no if you are referring to inside the cylinder. yes if its just in the hole where the plugs.no shouldn't cause valve cover gasket to malfunction its possible but not likely. it was a existing problem just more excessive with more oil. though it would cause oil to come out any where it could.

I changed the oil on my 2008 nissan sentra 2.0

You should use the viscosity oil recommended in your owner's manual. Using a heavier weight oil can affect your fuel economy. If you overfilled the engine with oil, drain out a quart. Overfilling with oil will cause the oil to 'foam', and if this happens, you are not getting proper lubrication of components, which can result in damage to your engine.

Blowing oil and smoke

When overfilled, how long before the level was drained back to normal, or was it? The problem with overfilling, is that the oil will 'foam' and not lubricate properly. This can result in serious engine damage. So, make sure it's at the proper level now, if it is, I believe the engine was damaged due to lack of proper lubrication. Wish I had better news. Good luck.
