Question about 1998 Jeep Cherokee
Full time 4wd 5.2 98 jeep grand cherokee limited
i just replaced my cv axle on front drivers side. i was hearing a clikcing sound. someone suggested that the new cv axle i put in might have been bad and to replace it again. i thought fare enough there was a warranty so i was covered. i just replaced the cv axle for a second time and yet sill im hearing a clicking coming from the front drivers side. at slower speeds 1 - 30 the clicking is very audible it clicks faster when i accelerate. when i drive straight it dosent seem to click ( as far as i can tell) but when turning it gets louder and is ver clear.
also when i cut the wheel and give my car gas it hops and its almost like the tires skip and lose traction.
so far i have replaced in the past 3 weeks both front axles (drivers side twice, outer tie rod end driver side. had an allignment. both front shocks. and a idle air conrtol sensor.
oh and my o2 sensor in my cat is saying my cat is bad. at 130k im guessing my cat is bad and the sensor is right.
Check the front drive line. If it has a double cardan u-joint at the rear and a cv joint at the front it is probably the front cv joint on the drive line. Eventually it will break. Manual states it requires replacing the entire front shaft as this CV can't be replaced separately. The other solution is to have a drive line repair shop build a new shaft with a skip yoke and u joint at the front and new yoke on the front axle housing.

Seeing as it is a 4wd and you replaced all the problem areas( this wont cost you anything but 75W90 x 2 Quarts and RTV) take all but the top diff cover bolt out of the front of your jeep let all the fluid drain then take off the top, sift thru your gear oil that came out with a magnet and see what you collect. if not much visually inspect your carrier and spider gears and your gear and pinion. I can almost gaurantee your problem will be in either the spiders or your gear
