Question about Toyota RAV4

My RAV4 has tendency to take a bit longer for the oil light to turnoff what is the problems

    oil is old and thinned out maybe.When was your last oil change?  Is the oil Level full?How many miles on the car?Does it smoke when accelerating ( Burning oil)

Don't fool around here, have a shop check the oil pressure and verify it is within specs, failure to correct this low pressure can and will cause severe engine damage, a $3000.00 repair bill.

Rattle and engine light coming on is a bad sign. Low or no oil, oil slug, also oil pump might have failed.

Careful - had same problem with 2003 rav4 turned out it was nearly running with no oil even though the oil level warning light didn't light up - check your oil level before you drive the car again

I have a 98 Rav4 with Oil leaking from Timing cover - Is is hard to get to to fix? Should it cost much at the mechanic to fix?


It must be a damaged oil seal. It's necessary to replace the timing belt and the seal. It should cost you a bit.

My 1997 RAV4 automatic is idoling high and is running rich causing huge amounts of petrol to be eaten up!!! help!!!


The idle air control (IAC) valve can cause this. Before anything Rav4 has tendencies to have vacuum leak causing unnecessary high RPM look and feel along the airfilter duct for anything broken or torn

the million dollard question some like syntec from castrol its not cheap but last longer and the engine turn faster when its cold outside there manly all good use the right grade for the engine as recommended by the manufacture 5w30 grade thank you pierre

Oil change light.


On my 06, Set the display to Trip A and turn key to OFF. Hold the Trip reset down and turn key to ON (do not start RAV4). Wait about 5 sec until it displays 00000. Turn key to OFF and it should be reset.

This is Toyota's scheduled maintenance for the RAV4 at 100,000 miles...

Replace engine oil and oil filter 1
Rotate tires
Replace engine coolant 2
Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
Applicable Footnotes:
1) Reset the oil replacement reminder (“MAINT REQD”) light after replacing engine oil, if vehicle is equipped with this light.
2) Initial replacement at 100,000 miles/120 months. Replace every 50,000 miles/60 months thereafter. Refer to "Engine Coolant" in the "Explanation of Maintenance Items" section in the back of this guide for more information.
