The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.

Your Cav has Fuel Injection, therefore the electric fuel pump is inside the tank. uel injection units require much more pressure than a manual pump can deliver.

No firing after carburator fitted from fuel injection


map sensor will stop all fire if not hooked up correctly. In order for you to run a carb, you will also have to remove the electric fuel pump from the tank, and install older style tank. if you try to use the electric pump in tank, it runs at much higher pressures, which will flood the carb with fuel, and the carb float will not be able to hold it back. So what are you going to do for a fuel pump? This is always a bad idea, best bet if you want to run a carb, is to get an engine set up for one and scrap that fuel injected block as it don't have a place to mount a mech. fuel pump. bad idea, bad idea, bad idea, your just spinning your wheels mate!

2004 vw caddy van. starts instantly cold. but cranks over for ages after stopping briefly. Also has loss of brake servo assistance occasionally after brief stop.


From what you say I would check the MAF and for any vacuum leak. Here is my reasoning. When cold the ECU sets long injection times to warm up and if the vacuum is low your fuel pressure relief valve will also be at higher pressure (reduced vacuum will not relieve the fuel pressure valve as it would normally). The result is the the extra fuel injected is balanced by the extra air due to the leak and the car starts easily. However when the engine is hot the ECU reduces injection times and the fuel mix is leaner. If the MAF is unable to read the mass of air flowing through it correctly it may set the injection to being too lean to run at idle and at restart. If there is a vacuum leak the additional air causes the engine to cut out and will like the MAF makes it difficult to restart. A quick way to check the diagnosis is, when the car next cuts out when hot, disconnect the coolant sensor before starting. This will fool the ECU into thinking the engine is cold and reset longer injection times and the car should restart that little bit easier. Reconnect the coolant sensor once the engine is running. Now switch off and try to restart with the MAF disconnected. the engine should restart if the MAF is at fault. Check that the MAF is clean and that its electrical connection is good. THe MAF can be cleaned by spraying it liberally internally with electrical spray cleaner and allowing to air dry before reassembling. Check the vacuum lines and junctions are secure. So what I have described here are two sides to the same coin. If the MAF 'sees' less air than there actually is the ECU will reduce the amount of fuel injected to 'compensate' and in the process makes the error of running the engine too lean. If there is a vacuum leak too much air actually enters the engine for the correct setting of the injectors and again the engine runs too lean. I hope this helps.

Not getting fuel to injecters starts but stops


electric problem there must be a loose connection,the wires for the solenoid on the fuel rail ,the solenoid is not opening at the right time ,see for the electric connection,when replacing head gasket,may be you have not plug the wire connection

Engine died,won't start ,pulled air cleaner, no fule getting into carb.


There's a few reasons you could be having this problem. Fuel pump, injectors, something electrical... ect..


I'd first off suspect a loose wire to the main injection harness, possibly after recent repairs? If it's a fuel pump, they generally start with it dying once, or being hard to start... then they become worse and worse, and eventually stop working altogether.

Next thing you could try, is test the fuel pressure by attaching a fuel pressure tester to the adapter on the fuel hose beneath the air cleaner assembly. If pressure is low, or non existent, it would be a problem among the fuel pump, fuel filter, and a kinked hose(not too likely).. Or some kind of fuse/electrical connection.

Also check electrical connections to the fuel pump, which i believe can be accessed under the rear seat...

2001 f350 diesel craks but wont start


SOUND LIKE THE ELECTRIC LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CHECK FUSE TO SEE IF PUMP GETTING POWER. IF NOT REPLACE FUSE AND CHECK THE WIRE TO PUMP.IF PUMP IS GETTING POWER..REPLACE FUEL FILTER FIRST.IF IT DONT HELP.COULD BE THE ELECTRIC LOW PRESSURE PUMP. FAULTY. IT PUMPS DIESEL FUEL IT INTO INJECTION PUMP TO BE PRESSURIZED TIMED AND INJECT.SEE IF LOW PRESSURE PUMP DONT WORK THE WHOLE ENGINE WONT RUN.THE INJECTION PUMP NEED FUEL FROM LOW PRESSURE ELECTRIC PUMP TO RUN ENGINE.

Fuel injection problem warning


The easy and least expensive try would be to change out the fuel filter. But it also sounds like a sensor or a loose connection on one of the sensors. You may want to check your air filter also. You might want to take the car to an automotive parts store that offers diagnotic checks on the car thru the obd port if you have a 1997(I think) or newer car. The ones around here will do the check for free as long as you purchase the replacement part from them. These same checks run about $65 at the dealerships.

Car starts and stops, if i keep the key at turned on possition,


hello, honda has a problem with the key switch shorting out. mostly becuase there is to much weight on the key ring. the electrical part of the switch looses contact in run mode. replace the ingtion switch electrical part. this should solve the problem
