Question about 1990 GMC Suburban

Gas gauge ground problem or tank sensor, speedo won't work,electronic,

2nd 700r4 installed, I changed gauge cluster 3 yrs ago, gas or no gas, ticket or no ticket???

The common fault is that the fuel level sending unit is defective inside the gas tank.

You should have an OBD 2 MIL Lamp lite on your dash

If you checked for codes, you would have something to
start the diagnostic process

Most likely a failed evap vent valve solenoid

a Suzuki swift in snakes clothing... or varies? just a hint helps.
which way is needle going, too high or low.?
did you do the 2 tests in the FSM.? for said gauge>
ground the fuel guage wire, and guage goes to max
then check the sender ohms (DMM dial to resistance)
here is the method. only the wire color change. if at all.

this is tracker but is near same.
remove clusters.

the cluster shell 4 screws, see em. remove em.
the see cluster? see the 4 screws at edge, same deal.
the speedo cable is the only hard part, but why do all that.?
why not do the 5 sec. test.

i looked at my huge files for metro/swift and no gauge pages.
have all the others.
one way to do this test, is pull the wire to the tank and ground it.
gauge goes to FULL.
gage is good. (fail , then)
if you do that at the gauge, and it works then the wire from
guage to tank are open. (Low all time) if FULL all time, wire is shorted to the body.

Hi the gauge is controlled by a 9v power supply fitted to the dash control board this is were the speedo etc is fitted. if for any reason the power supply goes funny the fuel gauge will go wrong. there are 2 capacitors in the main board these keep the volts steady. when they were out you need to change them. as for losing info with the dash out this will not happen gauges work on power no memory same for speedo electronic milometer is a chip controlled so it store last miles. with power off for years. other problems that can make the fuel gauge go wrong is the cluster connection or the signal wires from the tank. a weak earth or a feed wire connection in the wire loom in the side of the wall that all the wiring goes to-to get to the back and the front of the car. hope this helps you with your problem

1970 Ford F100 Gas Gauge Not Working

It may be the sending unit in the tank that needs replacing. Here's how you can check: Turn the key on and disconnect the sender unit at the gas tank. Ground the sender unit's wire with a jumper wire from the truck's harness to ground. Watch the gauge. If the gauge on the dash is good, grounding the sender wire will cause the gauge needle to react and should move to full. This would indicate a new sending unit is required. If the gauge doesn't move when the sender unit is grounded, the gauge is bad and needs replacing. Pull the instrument cluster out to replace the gas gauge. Likely any old ford gas gauge might work-back then, there were not so many production changes.

Won't turn over. The instrument cluster won't work

ok iif the instrument cluster does not work.. before i give a solution can you tell me if it have atach and temp gage not a temp gage witha idiot light but a actual temp gage.. because if temp gage and fule gage hands are not in their proper place like if yo uhave a 1/4 tank of gas and it reads way past full and the temp gage is gone out of site way past say 240 degrees then it is your speedo head .. have this trouble the other day on a chevy 2002 cavalier.. replaced the head and wahla the car started. it seems the speedo head is tied in with the computer system on these cars.. and if the tach is not working you need not worry if you cannot find a head with a built in tach.. a normal speedo head with out the tach part will also work.. just when you change the head count the pins on the old one and compare it to the new one if they match then just plug it in and car should start..

Guess I'd have to see your gauge to understand what you mean by it turns in a circle. If the gauge is bad you will have to remove the instrument cluster to access it.
If you ground the fuel guage sender wire from the tank's sender unit you can determine whether the gauge itself or the sender unit in the tank is bad.Here's how: Unplug connector at tank. Locate the right wire (gauge sender wire) in the connector and jumper it to a good ground. Observe dash gauge when you turn key to on. If the gauge is good it will move up to half or full when grounded. Then problem is likely the sender unit in tank. But if gauge doesn't move, then it's likely the gauge itself.

Speedometer not working all gauges work 700r4 trans ohms r good have ac voltage at cluster changed cluster when in air in od doing about 60mph speedo says 10mph

Is the speed sensor that you are using the original one, or is it from the Camaro, or is it new for an 89 K1500?

The worm gear inside of the transmission on the output shaft that drives the speed sensor gear is not damaged?

No matter what speed sensor is installed the speedometer still reads the same?
