My car makes a horrible noise when I apply the brakes and gets worse as I slow down. You can only hear the noise from inside the car. I recently had the brake pads replaced and the rotors turned. Any insight as to what this problem is?

My equinox is doing the same thing only I haven't had any work done yet. I was going to try to get it done this week. Now I wonder if I should have it checked out again because if yours is doing the samething and you haved the work done on it you say you have and it's still making the noise it must be something else. I've had trouble with this car since I've had it and I don't need to be spending any more money on it than I truly have to. If anyone has a clue as to what the problem may be let us know ...please.

I have the same problem. It sounds like a squeeking noise that happens when the brakes are applied. Its worse in dry weather, on corners and going up hills. I've been to the dealership(couldn't find the cause) and ended up at Midas where they told me that the brakes are too light for this heavy vehicle and lots of freeway and hill driving causes hot spots on the rotors and the sound you hear is the calipers adjusting to the rotor's hot spot. They ground down the right front rotor and the sound was gone for a week but they came back. I was told there was not much I could do - needless to say I won't be buying domestic for my next car.

not sure if my issue is the same but wanted to share that perhaps it may be the ABS sensor(s) ... for me, my ABS kicks on after I apply the brakes and the car slows to below 10 mph ...the brakes vibrate and make a loud noise. I believe it's a faulty sensor. Have been looking online for ABS recalls (someone said there was an equinox recall on ABS sensors) but no luck yet.

I just took my equinox in to the dealer today for the same problem. Just before I come to a full complete stop the abs engages. This problem just started the other day and today while I was out running errands it happened ever single time I stopped. I'm frustrated because my warranty ran out 6 mos ago. I'll post results soon!

My ABS and TC light comes off and on and when I brake and make turns I hear a grinding noise. When driving slow engine shifts back as if loosing power and once I hit 45 to 50 miles I feel a pull. I replaced the breaks, resurface rotors, hub assembly, service and flush transmission, tune up, engine oil, filter and problem still exsist.

I have a 2005 Equinox. For the past six months my car has been in 5 different shops due to the same problem and noone can tell me what it is because it doesn't register a code. You can drive at any particular speed and all of a sudden you **** forward and the car stalls somewhat, but as long as you keep the gas pedal all the way to the floor you can maintain speed but the first time you ease up on the petal or apply the brakes the car dies and you have no control of brakes or steering.

Here is the problem: It is the speed sensor for your wheel. Apparently mine was all jacked up and possibly could have happened during driving. The wires on mine apparently are all screwed up from whatever trauma it suffered. I'm on my way to go it now...........$240 OUCH!

Abslight stays on. How to fix? This is a2007trailblazer?

First you need to have EBCM - electronic brake control module check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . If the light is on there is a code stored . I think most part stores can do this and for free . After you find out what code is stored , looking up that code in service repair information for diagnostic trouble shooting chart would be next step . There are a few codes too.
DTC C0035 or C0040
DTC C0045 or C0050
DTC C0110
DTC C0131
DTC C0161
DTC C0186
DTC C0196
DTC C0201
DTC C0240
DTC C0241 or P0856
DTC C0244 or P1689
DTC C0245
DTC C0283
DTC C0287
DTC C0290 or C0292
DTC C0455
DTC C0550
DTC C0558

Find the code do the diagnostic's , fix the problem , wiring issue's , a sensor , bad module ,what ever it is . The light will go out then . Here is a sample of code discription .
• DTC C0035 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
• DTC C0040 Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

Abs light and tc on my 2005 chevy equinox

Hi,

The ABS & TC circuits are related.

It's possible one of your wheel speed sensors may be either contaminated (i.e. dirt or metal filings) or faulty, or a problem with your ABS pump.

Your vehicle's OBD computer will have store the appropriate fault codes, so have your codes read by Autozone or your local Chev/GM dealership. It should only take around 15 minutes to extract the codes and will immediately identify the suspected circuit.

My 2005 Equinox, 53,000 miles, makes a groaning noise shortly after putting it into gear. It happens as the car begins to move and goes about 10 feet. Sometimes it happens when I put it in Drive and ...

My 2 have always made that noise, I'm guessing it has something to do with the ABS charging in preparation for potential use. after a combined total of 240k miles, there has been no noted detrimental effect to this "charging" sound.
Great car.

When braking right before i come to a complete stop the ABS kicks in every time even when the roads are dry

it sounds like you have a wheel speed sensor dropping out at slow speeds. the abs computer sees a wheel go to zero mph and thinks it locked up so activates the abs will not set a code because computer thinks it is doing what it is designed to do. need to have someone drive it and monitor the wheel speed sensors while stopping and see which one goes to zero. a scan tool will be required for this that can read abs data.

I have a 2005 chevy equinox i replace the front rotors and brakes now when you come to a stop the car sounds like the abs system is kicking in

check the connections on the abs, behind the rotor by strut is the connection for the abs if the connector is loose or not properly affixed to the clip it sets off the abs trouble code or low speed saftey usually activates at slow speed under 5 miles an hour the connector and clip are part of the abs circuit--also recheck ur brake pads for binding and brake fluid level --if u get a trouble code have vehicle scanned some auo stores such as auto zone / advanced auto scan for free this will tell u which sensor or unit is causing problem

ABS under 10 mph goes off...feels like we won't stop!

Like the other person mentioned, if you have a faulty sensor or bad connection, that would trigger the light. That may also be triggering your ABS to kick in when it doesn't need to. On each wheel, there will be a sensor with some wires coming out of it located on the inside of the axle just behind the rotor. You'd have to test each sensor to determine if one or all of them are faulty.
