What would make the traction service light come on ? also abs light?

Checked fuses, unplugged battery,

Fault in the ABS Braking System,like a bad
wheel speed sensor or other items

Never unplug things,that only clears stored data
you need to find the system with the faults

Fused are never a problem

If a fuse ever blows you don't replace it,
you go to wiring diagrams to find the most
likely cause of an overloaded circuit

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.

THE PROBLEM IS WITH A HUB WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OR MORE LIKELY THE HARNESS LEADING TO THE HUB.

CHECK THE RESISTANCE AT THE HUB CONNECTION, IT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 900OHMS AND 1300OHMS. THEN SWITCH TO A-C VOLTAGE, IT SHOULD BE 100MV WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL BY HAND. IF BOTH CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE WIRING TO THE HUB.

THE RIGHT FRONT HUB USUALLY HAS A BEND, DOWNWARD THEN UPWARD NEAR THE CONNECTOR TO THE HUB. THAT IS WHERE THE PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURS.

NEW HARNESS WIRES CAN BE BOUGHT AT THE DEALER.

PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTIONBefore diagnosing ABS/TCS, perform a comprehensive visual inspection of system as follows.Check ABS/TCS wiring harness connectors for looseness. Check harness routing; pay particular attention to wheel speed sensor wiring harness routing. Check fuses No. 1D, 5B and 6B in instrument panel fuse block. Check fuses No. 1 and 2 in underhood fuse block. Check brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir. Check brake fluid level in Pressure Modulator Valve (PMV) assembly reservoir. Ensure parking brake is fully released. Ensure parking brake switch is functioning properly. Always perform ABS/TCS system functional check before using DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHARTSThe EBCM/EBTCM has self-diagnostic capability, which can detect system failures. Fault codes stored by EBCM/EBTCM can be displayed using Tech 1 scan tester. There are no provisions for flash code diagnostics.Begin ABS/TCS diagnosis with PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION procedure. If failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, perform necessary repairs, and proceed with ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK. Make sure all lights and chargers are off or unplugged. Check to make sure the alternator is working properly and charging the battery when the car is running. After that you need to make sure you have good battery connections. Battery cable can go bad.

My wife has a Mazda tribute 02, she reversed the polarity while trying to jump her car. Now the interior lights, radio and power locks don't work. The battery also has a constant drain so I gave to jump it...


first the battery will drain if there is current draw
to check current draw with an ampmeter to battery
to find out the drain unplug fuse one at the time you will find the circuit
second the battery can hold the charge itself (crack,or short cell)
when reversed the polarity it give a good good shake

My battery is every morning empty. Changed the dynamo, battery, steering contact. After removing the fuse of the radio / amplifier, battery keeps on level. Unplugging amplifier with fuse in results in low...


Have battery/alternator checked. Really clean connectors and battery posts even if they look ok. If battery is ok have it slowly recharged for 12-24 hrs. Alternators are not designed to recharged an empty battery but just to maintain the full charge. I large amp and sound system demands a big battery and heavy duty alternator.

Draw on battery on unfused circuit


I am assuming you are positive the battery does not have a dead cell.
There may be fuseable links on the starter that have power from the positive battery cable.
Everything on the truck is fuse in one way or another.
