Question about 2005 Mercury Mariner
Typically your security light will be flashing on your dashboard if this is the case or the horn will honk when you try to turn the car on.
Unfortunately, the dealer is usually the only garage that can reset the security system on your car, since it involves expensive computers. Chevrolet cars and trucks also run into this problem. Of course, this only applies to factory installed security systems; if you have had yours installed at an aftermarket shop, be sure to contact them first.

I had the same problem so I took my keys to the nearest Ford Service Department to reprogram the defective key. The second key would not reprogram correctly. They charged me for a new key ($140) and programming it ($110).

I have a 2006 Ford Explorer and I just found my keyless entry module. The module was behind the lower plastic panel on the passenger side rear panel right below the seat belt height adjuster. Not the panel with the seatbelt adjuster but the one below it. No tools were needed and it took me all of 5 minutes. Just pop off the front of the panel closest to the door and pull it back. Use a light and you can see the large 5 digit code on top of the module. Thanks very much to the people that contribute to this forum....Cheers
This is really where it is!
