How can I take the shifter knob off in Olds LSS

Need to fix the rainwater leak under the carpet. Trying to take out the center console to be able to take the whole carpet out. It looks like the shift knob needs to be taken off first to let me take the console out. This is a leather trimmed knob. It wobbles just a little bit on the shaft, enough to let me think that it is not screwed on. Looks like it is locked on the shaft by some spring ring maybe. There is no fixing screw anywhere but there is a thin slot on the front of the knob. It faces forward, I can't see what is there. Thanks for your help

That thin slot you speak of is actually a clip. If you put a small flat screwdriver behind it and pull towards front of car, it will slide out and shifter knob comes right off.

I don't know if there are any tricks. At this point you just have to wrestle it out. There seems to be a certain position that works but I don't remember exactly. I do know that gettting it out was easier than getting the new one back in.

I've got a 2000 mazda protege lx 1.6 I'm trying to find the location of the computor for my car or computors if there are more then one I have no clue. Anything will help!

mazda has typically put them one of 3 places.

1. passenger floor board. there is a panel under the carpet on the passenger's side where they have put it on some models.

2. under the dash. it will be kind of obvious but don't confuse it with any of the other control modules.

3. under the center console. there are very few with them located here, but it will be in the center console in front of the shifter if applicable.

Check these places and you will find it.
Best wishes!

Smell something burning coming from gear shifter

Are all your gear indicators correctly lit on the shifter? On my car the continual heat of the shifter bulb over the years damaged the plastic holding the bulb socket so that the bulb and socket fell straight down and ended up in the carpet under the shifter, with the hot bulb in the carpet causing the burning smell. The fix? Take the console apart to access the bulb, replace the bulb with an LED one with no heat to speak of, then use electrical tape to hold the bulb and socket in the damaged hole in the console, then reassemble the console.

Blower motor module

I believe on the 97 olds, the blower resistor is beside fan blower beneath the glove box. the best way to access this is to remove panel under glove box. then remove the glove box itself, now you have room to work on resistor. and not standing on your head and trying to fix it. good-day !

I have a 1997 olds lss that is clearly leaking water through the firewall on the drivers side and puddles up on the floor in the front and makes its way to the back it is only on the drivers side and lets...

The leak is probably at the intake fresh air vents under the windshield wipers. The only other thing is the windshield seal and that would not make such a mess. You can remove the mesh and clean out the pocket. Then you might be able to seal it with some silicone. I hope this helps you.

Heater Core

My mechanic tells me it is almost impossible to get to it without
taking out the dash. This will give you the clearance you need
to replace it. You might try it from under the dash if you have a
good back but i don.t think there's enough clearance to get it out.
I bought a salvage 1997 lss Olds and the airbag popped the dash
so we had to replace it. Not an easy task unless you've done it
