Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle
Car was running fine, occasionally made grinding noise at start up. Ran fine when I got home. Turned it back on about an hour later and wouldn't turn over at all. No lights, etc. Thought it was a battery problem. Left car alone for about an hour went and restarted and started but chugged like it was out of fuel and the engine finally turned over and started. Chugs bad now and can smell gas BAD the whole time the car is running. Help!

Light's came on due to your alternator is defective, it's not putting out voltage any more and will have to be replace, the reason it started later, is your battery recharge itself, engine will only run till battery get low on voltage again, have the charging system check out, hope this was very helpful.
