Question about Chevrolet 3500
My truck lost forward gears reverse is the only gear that will work. I pulled the pan fluid smells a little burnt however there is not a lot of sludge in the pan. Could this be the pump or the torque converter was thinking of new filter and fluid. Then trying it again.
Rebuild, flush, check valve body for valves stuck in bore, what transmission is in that ? 4l60 e or 4l80e or ?????

I believe that reverse is operated by a brake band. So it seems to be stuck. It is operated by a piston, and the seal could have swelled and caused too much friction. But you could loosen up the adjustor so that it is disengaged, in order to get forward gears again. Perhaps you can force the piston to retract as well, once you drop the pan again.

Check the linkage at the transmission. Have somebody move the selector while you watch the linkage move. It might be out of adjustment for reverse, or be binding up.
