Is it possible that you ran out of fuel?

If you have topped the car up already I would be inclined to suggest a wiring harness problem - not activating the fuel pump or sending the appropriate signal to the fuel gauge.

It's my daughters car. She filled up before coming to Jersey from RI. She pulled over, and restarted the ccar and it was fine. An electrical problem makes sense

Fuel guage sometimes read empty when there is gas in the tank?

Check that there are no holes in the float. If the fuel is getting into the float, it will give a false reading. Another thing is to check the ground on the float sensor. If it's not connected tightly, it will create a false reading too.

My 2002 chev s10 4.3 stalls at times and dont want to idle but other times it does just fine

Sounds like it would do you good to Change the filter and run some Injector Cleaner or Carburetor Cleaner through it (Depends upon your motor) It being a 2002 I would bet it is Fuel injected.

I have the same problem with the gas guage reading empty when its full. But now every once in awhile when i put it in reverse it'll die.

it sounds like the fuel pump or "sending unit" is causing the faulty gas gauge and stalling. if your vehicle is the avalanche shown, the sending unit is located inside the fuel tank and i believe it needs to be dropped in order to be replaced

Gas guage not reading accurate

Your sending unit inside of the fuel tank is probably faulty. Unfortunately you have to drop the tank to change it.

2004 Dodge Stratus gas guage starts to go empty

You likely need a new fuel sending unit (it's in the trunk, and is what drives the gauge).

Check gauges light

Possible bad guage, bad wiring, or bad sending unit. Check each one independently of each other, start with wiring first, then sending unit.
