Why does my TRANS PROGRAM light come on?

When the TRANS PORGRAM light comes on the transmission is very sluggish. Transmission was rebult 3 years ago. The sensors are the original sensors when the car was made. Should they be replaced?

SOURCE: Transmission intermittently goes into the limp mode

You need a code reader. It does sound more like an electrical prob than a trans failure you could rebuild the whole trans and it just does it again. Invest in the full shop manual including the electrical one. I would get on the BMW fanatic forumns,

SOURCE: BMW X5 Trans Fail Safe Program,

IT'S VERY EASY TO RESET THE TRANSMISION'S COMPUTER. HOLD GAS PEDAL DOWN. TURN THE KEY TO THE NUMBER TWO. CONTINUE TO HOLD THE GAS PEDAL DOWN FOR THIRTY SECONDS.RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL AND PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR TEN SECONDS. NOW YOU CAN TURN THE VEHICLE ON. THAT SHOULD TAKE IT OUT OF SAFE MODE

SOURCE: auto transmission; " trans program" light comes on

You will need to be able to scan the car and read the faults, but it sounds like maybe the shift module on the side of the tranny is not sending the Park or Neutral message to the DME so the car does not know that it can start because it needs to see that the car is in park or neutral to be able to start, but you really need to be able to scan the DME or the EGS to be able to know.

1. Try the Reset but you may need to disconnected the + and - cables together of few minutes to clear all memory
2. Check for damaged wire on the tranny or leaking
3. Change the tranny fluid and filter
4. Take it to the dealer or a well equipped BMW shop that can pull tranny codes.

Hope helps.

Slow pickup on takeoff

You don't specify make, model, year, engine or transmission, but if an auto, a common cause of this is failure of the 1-2 shift solenoid in the trans, meaning that it cannot find low gears, hence the sluggish takeoff.

It is not an expensive part, but it is best to have the vehicle on a hoist as the trans pan must come off. Also this fault should cause the check engine light or the overdrive light to blink a trouble code.

Van is leaking orange under right side.

Well, the trans is on the left or drivers side of the van.
If the trans were leaking fluid it would be red.
Orange could be radiator coolant. It could be a hose or the water pump.
Someone will have to narrow down where it is coming from.

2002 Durango transmission sluggish when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I was told that the Transmission needs flushed and new Fluid added

Usually if the trans is acting up new fluid isn't going to change a thing, that's usually a ploy to get you to spend some money, just what I have seen.. Q: does the trans act up more or less when hot or cold, if there is a difference with temp then changing the fluid isn't going to help you, but that's my opinion, I been a dodge tech for 17 years but anything is possible with cars......

I have an Infiniti 2005 G35 with 102,000 miles and the trans was slipping. Trans rebult but light comes on after 20k. Infiniti hot line is no help. Car has been in shop 3 weeks with no solution.

any lights on on the dash? if trans slipping either internal problem or slim chance electrical failure. which gear slips or is it all the time? if only one gear or at times failure in the clutch assy. if all the time indicates low working pressure, maybe bad EPC.

I don't know if it is an EGR problem or what kind of problem it is. Have a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche with Reduced Engine Power light coming on, a year ago we replaced the throttle body sensor after it was...

2005 Chevy Avalanche. And you did the Throttle body sensor. Reduce power light coming on, APP and TPS that a shot in the dark, As for the EGR if that is a problem The vehicle is a speed density it also uses a MAF (mass air flow) . Whenever that light comes on I'm finding it in the transmission parameter not the TPS or APP (accelerator pedal position) first the 2005 Transmission has a high failure record, There is a transmission pressure control solenoid that is given wrong input data and send the transmission to self destruct. If this is your second problem similar to last year go ahead put a throttle body sensor, but the APP need to be in sequence with it. As for the EGR no it wont cause sluggish failure it is monitored by the MAF if the MAF fails then its back up by the MAP. For the reduced power light get the ECM reflashed

Do you have any codes stored?
If so,what are they?
The engine issues are not likely related to the trans.
You may have a misfire due to a bad coil or other issue.
The trans can be addressed, after you clean up engine drivability.
Check ALL wires removed during the trans R&R,for loose grounds.

SLUGGISH TRANSMISSION

Discribe sluggish. Changing the fluid has nothing to do with shift stratagy or correct trans operation. Change the filter every time you do the fluid, unless your just pulling the plug every year or so,to change some fluid.
These vehicles have a tendency to have a bad Trans Solenoid Pack. If it bangs into reverse or shifts funny around 35 to 40 on a slight hill, that part may be going bad.
You need a proper working EGR Valve and TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) also.
Don't forget to flush the Power Steering Fluid--although unrelated to the trans.

Trans--Mercon V Fluid
Steering--Mercon (Not V)

Check gearbox light, car drives sluggish, heater cuts off.

You have a bad gearbox position sensor located on the transmission. When the transmission computer sees the fault in that sensor it goes into a protective mode in your car starts out in second gear that's why it is sluggish. This is a very common failure on that car. The heater issue is not related.
