Opened unlocked door, alarm goes off and it will not start

Bouught car used a few months ago. replaced ignition switch, have had no problems, except the door key (that came wth car) I have never been able to even get into the key holes. Never set or heard alarm until couple days ago, when I opened the drivers side door, alarm went off and would not start. First to turn off the alarm you simply put the key into the drivers door and turn it to unlock the door twice, this is the factory setting to turn off activated Volkswagen alarm. As for the power locks they are air activated, in the trunk near the latch there should be a small electric motor that drives a small air pump with air lines running to all your locks. If this electric motor as worn out your locks will not operate, simple fix replace the motor. I'd try a used one first from a scrap yard to make sure but always check to see if there is power to the motor (you will need another person with a test light to perform this job). Let me know if this works. Vdubs 4-ever !

Do you have a key fob? Unlock the car with that and you should be OK. My sons Elantra is the same way, you can only get in with the fob. I guess the car thinks it's being stolen otherwise. If you don't have a fob, I'm no help

Go to your local junk or scrapyard and pull them yourself. The dealer charges an average of 90-100 dollars an hour. So a lot of the money they quoted you for was probably for labor

Antitheft system keep goes on I can't start vehicle

Use the remote to deactivate alarm or use key in the door lock to unlock the door. The problem you had is when you lock the door and the alarm activates it must see a disarm signal or else it thinks someone broke the window and used the switch to open the door.

Open the trunk with the key, it will disable the alarm. You probably need a new door lock cylinder, which you should look into. They're easy to replace, but take a while to get, as they have to be coded for your key. You can also remove the door lock cylinder by loosening the t20 torx screw near the door handle until the lock cylinder slides out(DO NOT LOOSEN MORE THAN NECESSARY TO GET THE LOCK CYLINDER OUT), then use a flathead screwdriver through the hole to activate the lock.

You will need to find a push button or valet switch (hidden somewhere under the dash), This will help you in turning off the alarm. Once you find this button, turn the ignition key to the run position, do not try to start the vehicle, and push down button for about 3 to 5 seconds this will shut alarm off. Good Luck.
