Re: car revs but doasnt start
You say you have spark for sure ? If so, remove air inlet hose at throttle body, then try spraying a little WD-40 in throttle body, with plate open, then try to start. If it kicks over & fires up for a second or two, you have a fuel delivery problem. Lets start there & see what you get.

could be a number of things start off cheap spark plugs, wires if you have any next not so cheap coil packs connect directly to spark plug with little boot vacuum leaks hoses that are rotted or loose etcc. good luck
i have a 1.8 escort which is much the same engine as st when you start them you do not give them throttle you just depress clutch and not touch throttle ,they have a cold start on them so by the sounds of it the cold start is faulty you have done the right thing take it to dealers and not let anybody touch it cause you could invalidate its warranty (my car when started revs go high but after it is started it sits about a thousand rpm)hope this helps you
Change all the filters (fuel and air). check and see if all your spark plugs are firing or just change them. if it is fuel injected make sure your injectors are working. Hope something there helps get it running good.
