Door alarm comes on while driving.

Door alarm comes on while driving. I get into the car, and the door alarm continues several times with the interior lights on. It stops but then comes on several times while driving. No doors are open. . Also, after locking doors the car alarm has gone off.

This is caused by a defective door ajar switch in one of the 4 doors. The switch is located on the back of the door latch mechanism inside the door. The system can be tested to id the defective switch which is far better than just removing all 4 door panels and rear glass channels to access the 4 switches. Each switch is about $15.00 time to remove them about 4-5 hours for all doors to do this the hard way.

SOURCE: Car thinks door is open all the time

There is a small switch inside the door area, and it is obviously broken. The switch is usually held in place by 1 screw, and has a wire clip attached to the interior side. If you replace that switch. your issue should cease.

Simply remove the screw that retains that switch, pull it out of the body, remove the wire clip. and install the new switch in reverse.

I hope this information helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.

SOURCE: message says "door ajar" but no door open

There are 2 things we see on these models. 1st one is it could be a stuck door adjar switch. For this you can try and put WD40 into the latch on the side of the door, put a generous amount directly into the latch then close and open the door several times. This will un-stick a switch most of the time.
2nd thing it could be, open the door and look at the front of the opening between door and A pillar and you will see a black rubber accordian tube running between body and door, this is where the wires run from body to door. Sometimes a wire will break inside this. You can usually verify this by taking a screwdiver and trip the latch so that it shows the door closed(even though u have it open) then wiggle that harness and see if it effects the door adjar light.

SOURCE: door ajar light stays on after i close the door

I had the same problem in my 98 and 96 Sables. Ford dealer says it is a problem with a sensor, located behind the left rear quarter panel. It doesn't recognize when the doors are closed, therefore it leaves the dome light, etc. on--sometimes briefly, but possibly until the battery goes dead. Worse when the weather is damp. Their solution was to throw it on the diagnostic computer BUT ONLY WHILE THE PROBLEM IS ACTIVELY HAPPENING, then replace the sensor--they quoted me a minimum of $300. I leave the cover off the dome light, and pull the bulb when necessary.

SOURCE: Electric Door Locks not working

you will need to check the door harnesses. the wires crack over time due to the opening and closing of the doors.

check them for broken wires.

How do i get to the door ajar alarm in my 2002 kia sportage? Want to yank the alarm out.. Is it under the radio? Want to get an idea before i take the dash off again

there could be a bad or not totally depressed door switch/es when all doors are closed, assuming the alarm system module (not sure of the name, some manufacturers call it body control module-'BCM') is good. you may try the following:
1. if there is, tighten each lock nut (or mounting nut) of the door switches, to bring out each door switch so that they will be fully depressed when the doors are closed.
2. to find out which switch/es is not being fully depressed when door is closed: while (& all doors closed) door ajar alarm is on, open one door & manually depress the door switch (try to depress several times - might be sticking). if alarm turns off you found the switch, otherwise continue to the next door. but before proceeding to the next door, tape down that first door switch (you may have more than one?) once you found the switch that is not being fully depressed when door is closed, tape down that switch (to keep the alarm turned off). go back to each taped down switch. remove tape & close door, if the alarm turned off when the door was closed (switch is fully depressed=good), then go to next.
3. you can skip 2, just install spacer to doors. spacer can be a thin piece of plastic (or something weatherproof cardboard) to make the door switches to fully be depressed when doors are closed., not too thick that may prevent door from properly latching). tape them first, then use good adhesive if they work.
other possible causes are bad door switch, broken or detached wire, or bad BCM)
(note: the door switch is a push button which looks like a small protruding nail? & mounted at the door opening, which will be depressed by the door upon closing).

My 98 kia sportage wont start

It sounds like the key sensor in the drivers door is malfunctioning, the drivers door is the only door that can enable/disable the alarm, if you try to unlock any of the others it will trigger the alarm.

Sometimes with my Kia I have to (without opening the door), cycle lock and unlock several times before the alarm is disarmed.

Have you tried this is succession, with all the doors locked:-

put the key in the drivers door, turn to lock and then to unlock, the alarm should disarm.

Also, if any of the door locks are jammed, the alarm will still activate when you try to unlock the drivers door.

If that fails and the alarm still activates, then it's a problem with the key sensor in the door.

I have a 1998 Land Rover Discovery with alarm problems.

Easy dont bother locking the car i never lock any of my cars if a tea leaf wants to get in then let them as i dont even bother with a CD player ,your problem will have to go to a dealer with the relevant software to be able to diagnose the problem correctly ,it could be a simple fault with a worn lock mechanism on the back of the door lock barrel though so take the door panel off and check it out before you go to the dealer

My door ajar light and alarm continue to go off when I am driving and even after I have checked all the doors. I want to just disable it but don't know how.

Good Afternoon!

regarding your door adjar light....

it is not possible to disable the system as it is integral to the GEM module. this module controls several other features of your vehicle, therefore can not be disconnected. The lights typically come on as a result of a sticky switch for the lights. these switches are located on the back side of the door latches. they are not accesable without taking off the door panels. However, i have had success with lubricating the latches and working doors open and closed several times. If you look at the latch on the door itself, you will notice gaps near the corners, spray very generously, penetrating oil or WD40. take into consideration that gravity will pull the oils down, so spray up intop the little openings arround the latch, you are trying to get oil to reach the backside of the latch where the switch is located. do this to all 4 doors and you will more than likely succeed! the only other way to determine wich dor certainly is causing lights to come on is to see your local Ford dealer. only their computers are able to communicate with your onboard computer system to monitor which door is commanding the lamp on. I wish you luck!

ps...your 4 thumbs up is appreciated if i helped you

'95 Nissan Maxima-Alarm goes off-then windows & doors won't work

Open the drivers door panel and locate the inside lock cylinder, there is an alarm switch that wrap around it with an electrical wire came out, it might also have another one on the passenger side in some other model . What it does is arm and disarm the alarm when you use the mechanical key and in some other model, it also lower the window when you disarm. The switch might pop out of place or deteriorated due to age. Good luck all.
