Question about 2004 Cadillac Escalade

Looking for the wrench(tool) to take off lug nuts, didnt come with my escalade

Took my car into get tires rotated, and they couldnt do it unless cutting off my lug nuts and replacing them, where do I find the tool. Tire store said they didnt have one. Can anyone help?

SOURCE: i took the lug nuts off and the tire wont come off

The wheel is being held on by rust, you just have to break it free from the wheel hub with a few good hit on the tire. If your still having a hard time, put the lug nuts back on but not all the way in and put the car back on the ground and move the car back and forth and being hard on the brakes. That should break the wheel free from the hub and just raise the car and remove the wheel. Good luck and be safe.

Fix a flat tire


All tools should be included in your car. Spare tire: underside of trunk, tools: under access panel inside on right, handle: engine compartment. They are listed in the owner's manual, under 'changing the tires'. They include a jack, a lug wrench, and most likely a 'key' that looks like a heavy socket. You will need it to loosen the one lug not that (likely) looks different from the others. Loosening the lug nuts with standard (car) equipment can be difficult. Much easier if you can get/borrow an X type lug wrench.
How to do it? mostly common sense, really. First, make sure the spare has sufficient pressure, otherwise you're wasting your time. Some basic cautions: park on firm and level ground, secure from roll-away, be aware of other motorists and other hazards. Change tire


You need a jack to lift the vehicle high enough to get the tire off and the new one on, you need a lug wrench to loosen and tighten the lug nuts and depending on the rims you might have hub caps that are part of the rim or seperate and if they are seperate, you need something to pry them off with. So the proper way to do this is:
Before you raise it with the jack, take the lug wrench and loosen the lug nuts a little. This is easier when the tire is on the ground because depending on the tire location, it will turn if you lift it. So when the weight is on it, it wont turn. Then you put the jach under the car and near the tire you are lifting and you use the jack to raise the tire. Then finish taking the lug nuts off. Remove the tire and put the new tire on. You may have to raise the jack some more to make it high enough. Put the lug nuts back on tight as you can and lower the car. Then tighten the lug nuts again to be sure. You should tighten lug nuts by skipping them. In other words start with one and tighten it, skip the next one and tighten the third one. When you go all the way around, go to the ones you skipped and tighten those.

None of the lugnuts on my 2002 Mitsubishi galant will loosen after using four different tire irons. It's the back right tire. Is there a special tool for these cars?


DO YOU HAVE LOCK NUTS? WHEN YU CHANGED YOUR TIRE DID YOU USE A TORCWRENCH? IF NOT YOUR OVER TIGHTENED AND NOW THEY DUG INTO THE RIM.
RIM ALLOY OR STEEL? IF STEEL GET A TORCH AND WARM IT UP,
IF ALLOY, NO TORCH UNLESS VERY MINOR HEAT..GET A LONG PIPE, FIT IN ON THE TIRE IRON FOR MORE LEVERAGE AND (REMEMBER LEFTY LOSEY RIGHTY TIGHTY).. AND STEP UP ON IT.. IT WILL COME OFF. ALL ELSE FAILS GET A BIG DRILL OR ROTATING SANDER/GRINDER AND SAY BYE BYE BY DRILLING THE NUT OFF AND SANDING DOWN ONE SIDE UNTIL YOU JUST TOUCH THE LUG THREAD.. AND GET A NEW LUG NUT, AND A TORQUE WRENCH FOR NEXT TIME, 9 FT/LBS SHOULD DO IT,

Cannot get the rear flat tire off of 1995 chevy cavalier. Do I need a special tool for this?


You should only need a standard lug nut wrench to remove the wheel, unless you have a lock nut (usually one nut is different) and it requires a 'key' to remove that one nut-if they are all the same, however, you just need a lug wrench with the correct size to remove them.

We had a new serpentine belt replaced a couple of months ago and it just came off. How can I put it back on? Also the lug nuts seem to be stripped.

Before we get to putting it the Belt back on...
Look at the alignment of the Pulleys. Most times the Tensioner or Idle Pulley are "canted" - meaning pitched or leaning forward, which causes the belt to "run off" the pulley - throwing the belt.
With the Belt off: check side-to side play for each one of the Pulleys by hand, especially for the Tensioner and Idle Pulleys. There should not be any side-to side play. If there is any other Pulleys that are canted - check if they are properly tightened. A new belt should not have come off on it's own without some other problem.

GENERAL/Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with a Tensioner:
A. Find the Tensioner(s). (See Diagrams on Link)
B. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening) rotating the Tensioner Pulley/Arm - moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
C. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.
D. DO NOT quickly release the Tensioner, but gently allow the Tensioner to rest in its closed position.

Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with Tensioners:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them.


Regarding the Strip Lug -Studs.
Is this on the wheels with Rotors (Disc) or Drums? If the tire was not properly mounted, or the Lug Nuts were not properly Torqued; this will cause the Lug Studs (bolts) to be stripped.
With the vehicle raised and properly supported by jack stands:
For Rotors:
Remove the Tire, Brakes (Calipers/Pads) and Rotor, exposing the Wheel Hub (Bearing) Assembly with the Studs fully exposed. Rotate the Wheel Hub to a location where the Lug Studs can be clearly removed FROM THE REAR OF THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY.
Using a impact hammer or mini sledge hammer: Hammer the Lug Studs back thru the Wheel Hub Assembly.
Remove the loosened Lug Studs.

For Drums:
Raise, support, remove the Tires.
Remove the Drums off the Wheel Assembly.
Using a impact hammer or mini sledge hammer: Hammer the Lugs back into the drum, removing from inside the Drum

Purchase the new, correct size and length Lug Studs and new Lug Nuts. If the Studs were stripped, most like the Nuts are too.
To reinstall the Lug Studs: Purchase an additional two (2) Lug Nut that fits that Lug Stud. Also purchase several Large Heavy Duty Washers that can fit on the the Lug Studs.

Place the Lug Stud back into the Wheel Assembly from the Rear (Rotors) or from inside (Drums). Use High Temp Grease for the area of the Lug Stud Splines that have to be "drawn" into the Wheel Assembly (with Rotors) or into the Drum.
After the Lug Studs are "IN" as far as they will go: on the outside place at least two (2) of the Washers on Lug Studs. Use a Lug Nut and tighten as far as possible down-on the Lug Stud as possible.
Next: Using an Impact Wrench tighten that Lug Nut down/on, drawing the Lug Stud into the Wheel Assembly/Drum. Check the rear of/inside the Wheel Hub Assembly/Drum. The Heads of the Lug Studs should be firmly against the Wheel Assembly/Drum.
If you do not have a Impact Wrench - use at least a 24-in Breaker Bar and Tighten the Lug Nut on, drawing the Lug Stud into the Wheel Hub Assembly/Drum. This takes longer and alot more work, compared to 10-seconds using the Impact Wrench.
Repeat as necessary.

Spare tire


I have an Infinit QX56 and it uses the same tool to release the spare from under the rear of the SUV/lift gate. All you need to do is open the storage compartment in the rear hatch and get out the lug wrench bag out that has the tools. There is a long tool that looks like a bar with a "T" at the end. This will go into a hole in the rear bumper under the hatch. Then attach the extention tool and finaly lug wrench to the end with the hole in it. Rotate until you feel it catch, then rotate counter clockwise to lower the tire. Once it hits the floor, release a bit more tension so you can manuver the chain and holder out from the center of the rim. Lastly do these steps in reverse (rotate clockwise) to put the tire back under. Hope this helps!

i'm guessing you don't have the lug nuts on all the way. loosen them and push the wheel and tire against the hub. Then tighten the lugs nuts by hand first. Then tighten with ug wrench. Each one a little at a time.

Can not remove lug nut caps 2003 x -type jaguar


I have an 04 xj8. the lug nuts are a good bad example of half baked engineering. the lug nuts are fabricated from ugly steel with an 11/16 hex end. to beautify this, Jaguar overlays the nut end with a stainless steel 3/4 inch cap, crimped to the nut. On top of this, the nut is to be torqued to 90+ ft-lb! The only way to remove the lug nut without damage is with a SIX POINT socket and a breaker bar or an impact wrench. Using a 12 point socket will deform the cap, causing the wrench to spin on the cap and or the cap to spin on the nut itself. If that has happened, it is possible to recover using a 15 oz or thereabouts ball peen hammer and a deep 3/4 inch impact socket (the black ones). Line up the socket to the cap, doing a best guess to where the flats are and give the socket a light blow. Keep trying that until the socket seems to stick on, then hit it harder. Eventually you will find the right point and the socket will go on and reform the cap. Then a breaker bar can remove the cap/nut. New assemblies can be had for about $6 from "partsbin" or "autohausaz".

Mechanics keep on breaking my lug nuts,Why?


Over tightening. They are probably using an impact wrench to tight the lugs because its the fastest way. Its not the right way though.
Here is what happens. When the nuts are tightened, the studs will stretch. This tension holds the wheels on to the rim. If you over tighten the studs you can damage them and they could fail. The best approach is to use an impact wrench to snug up the nuts. Then go back with a torque wrench and tighten to the manufacturer specifications.(lug nut torque for your vehicle is 110 ft-lbs ) Next time you are having your tires rotated or changed, make sure the mechanic uses a torque wrench and the correct torque.
