Question about 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Interior lights do not turn on

The interior lights of my 98 jeep grand cherokee will not turn on even when the engine is started and running. This includes the courtesy lights, light under the hood, glove box light and the cargo light. Fuses all appear to be okay.

1996 jeep grand cherokee no automatic interior lights

1. If you have the light switch in the wrong mode the lights will not operate when you open the door.

2. If the interior lights do not operate at all (ie you cannot switch them on and off manually)then you need to check the fuse for the interior lights.

3. When set to the correct mode, the interior lights will operate from a door operated switch so if the switch has failed the lights will either stay on or not operate at all when you open and close the door. Eventually these door switches fail with repeated use and need to be replaced. (Consider how many times the small door switch has been operated since 1996).

FUSE BOX HAS CLICKING SOUND

i'm sure that would be somewhat disconcerting. it's one of the relays clicking. remove the fuse panel cover and put your finger on each relay till you find the one that is clicking.... pull it out and replace it. you'll know you have the right one if the interior lights go off when you pull it out.

Flashing Headlights/interior Lights

Could be a bad light switch or relay, but I'd check dash and body grounding first. On every Jeep I've ever owned, I run a direct ground to everything before I even drive it. To do this, Attach a 12ga or larger wire to the battery ground connector. Run that wire around the firewall side of the engine bay, removing insulation at several points and attaching the exposed wire to the firewall, (using short, self-tapping screws) both fenders and ground points for the computer. I also attach one additional leg which runs through the firewall (careful not to drill through anything important) and attaches to the metal frame of the dashboard. I also add a second ground wire directly to the engine block, eliminating any possibility of a poor ground anywhere. It sounds like a big job but it's not, and doing this precludes many frustrating and unnecessary problems down the road!
