Question about Nissan Terrano

2 Answers

I have a 1994 Nissan Mistral (Terrano) 2.7 turbo diesel (Japanese import) which is very sluggish. Even in neutral it only goes up to 2400rpm. It goes up more when you manually use the priming pump at the filter. Checked for the electric pump in the tank but it is not there. Is there an electric pump in this model or is the pump integrated into the injection pump? There is a relay under the bonnet marked fuel pump/fuel heater

By now you have probably worked out that by pushing the primer you are able to force diesel through what is probably a very clogged up filter. Replace the filter with a new one and try again.
if the same thing happens, no revs over 2400, follow the fuel supply pipe round to the injection pump. Where it enters the pump is a banjo bolt, about 17mm, unscrew this, keep both the copper washers, one each side of the bolt, and see if there is a very fine gauze filter under this bolt, in the pump itself. This is the last ditch crud keeper outer, and if it is full, just rinse it and get the crud out.
ow pump the primer and push fuel all the way through for say a cupful so any crud in the line. Between the filter and the pump is flushed through..catch the flow in a jar and have a look for crud. Dry the gauze filter and put it back into the pump,
anneal the two washers or go buy two new ones, replace the bolt and pump that primer until it cannot be pumped any more. Start engine and go to 2500rpm immediately and hold there for a minute in case there are any air bubbles and the engine stumbles...with the revs on in park the chances are the bubbles will be forced through and you will not have to bleed the injectors.
there is only a pump on the injector pump to suck fuel from the tank. Simple, and it works..if there is no crud in the fuel, line, filters, tank or gauze........

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.

Did you follow these procedures?

  1. Release the fuel pressure from the fuel line as follows:
    1. Remove the fuel pump fuse at the fuse box.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. After the engine stalls, crank the engine two or three times to make sure that the fuel pressure is released.
    4. Turn the ignition switch OFF and reinstall the fuel pump fuse.
  2. Loosen the hose clamps at the fuel inlet and outlet lines. Wrap a shop towel or absorbent rag around the filter, then slide each line off the filter nipples.
  3. Remove the fuel filter and old hose clamps.

To install:

  1. Place new hose clamps on the fuel inlet and outlet lines.
  2. Connect the fuel filter, being careful to observe the correct direction of flow, then tighten the hose clamps.
  3. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

Always use a high pressure-type fuel filter assembly. Do not use a synthetic resinous fuel filter

Have you checked the fuel pressure on it? Fuse? Pressure to the engine?

My 1992 nissan terrano blows to much black smoke .how to fix this .some say i have unbirt fuel?

if diesel and turbo , check turbo operation of for holes in the intercooler
if turbo or naturally aspirated check/ replace injector tips as black smoke indicators squirting and not atomizing
if petrol check for excessive fuel pressure, faulty injectors , leaking injector seal
regardless of petrol or diesel --black smoke indicates incorrect air / fuel ratio ( too much fuel) so injectors, intercooler, bad turbo or blocked air cleaner are all candidates for the fault

Hi. Could you tell me which fuse controls the electric aerial. Nissan terrano ll 1996 import.

typically the fuze is under the hood. It is a inline fuze attached to the antenna motor.. I may be hidden under the fender, so find the motor for the antenna and follow the wires till you come upon the fuze holder. It comes apart with a twist, be sure to replace with the same value fuze. 2 amp usually. It has been my experience that these fuzes blow because of a short in the wiring or a short in the motor itself. so if your replacement fuze blows right after you put it in, you have more than a fuze problem.

1999 nissan terrano diesel turbo is lacking power , brand new fuel pump and comp chip installed and has run like **** since, has been put through comp diagnosis but no fault showing,(is very slow 2 pickup...

Possibly the "Mass airflow sensor". I had a similar problem, basically the car behaved like it didn't have a turbo and was really slow. Unfortunately the Mass airflow sensor is expensive, about AU$800. Only failed once several years ago. Hope this helps.
