Question about 1997 Nissan.5 Altima
While driving, the engine begins to sputter and I lose power. It sounds as if someone put an orange or an apple in the muffler. I step on accelerator and gun the engine and it sputters more. If I come to a full stop, car will shake and sputter, then die on me. It starts again, but continues this until, for some unexplained reason, it stops doing this and runs normally. This has been happening for about two months. I'm going crazy with it. A good and reputable mechanic just scratched his head and said maybe I needed a fuel filter. Got one at 86,000 miles and now have 121,000 miles on car. Am I due for a fuel filter or is this a bigger problem than that?
It sounds to me that you are loosing sparl on one of your cylinders. have you pulled the spark plugs and compared the plugs?

I belive its a injector failing..theres good trouble shooting tips from: Nissanclub.com, about high speed stumbles and missfires (loosing power) they have the omh ratings to test the injectors as well as the comments on replacing them.. good tip info >but of course change the plugs, wires, cap, rotor first..found my nissan really like eating plugs up..(max of 2 years service life) ngk iridum last the best for 7.99 each there affordable..
