Question about 2008 Nissan Sentra 2.0

1 Answer

What is a "left closing plate" and is it something I could replace myself?

I got a minor scratch on the left bumper of my 2008 Nissan Sentra. The body repair guy is telling me I need to replace the left closing plate and will need to get some new paint over the bumper. Sound like a relatively simple process, but the total estimate came out to be over $1,600. Ridiculous. I found that left closing plate costs $20.80 at everythingnissan.com. But is this something I could do in my garage with a few screwdrivers and monkey wrenches?

If you got an itemized bill, check to see how much they are charging you for the replacement of the closing plate.
From experience, the labor for the paint of a bumper is what costs most.
When a bumper is replaced, in order to have the front end match the new paint on the new bumper, they have to blend the hood and fender covers, or you will notice the difference in paint color with the bumper.
Best is to ask body shop to explain the estimate in more detail. I also recommend that you have your auto insurance company pay for the repair, minus your deductible. This is why you have insurance.

SOURCE: bumper estimate

If this car is a second car why don't you find out if a shop would bench repair the bumper? You could take it off, have them recondition the part and then you reinstall it.
If you have time and luck there may be a twin car to yours in a Salvage yard. With even more luck it may be the same color. It may be good enough to bolt on without repainting.

My 96 nissan sentra shuts down at times in idle at stop light, allready installed new plugs roter and plug wires

Disconnect the air ducting between the air filter box and the throttle. Clean your throttle body interior with a cloth and plenty of carb choke spray (WD40 is good too). Idling is controlled by the engine's computer and the Idle Air Control Valve IACV . This device allows air passed the closed throttle plate when the engine is at idle. Locate the inlet port in front of the throttle plate in the inside wall of the throttle body. Locate the IACV on the outside of the throttle and remove it. Give it and associated passageways a really good clean. Make sure the valve and valve seat are free of crud. Re-assemble and this should cure the problem

I have a holden senator new model 2009, a car slightly.

Depending on how deep the scratches are, you may be able to keep the bumper. You can probably sand, bondo, prime and paint the bumper and be ok. If you choose to replace, after market bumper covers start and around $70 usd and OEM bumpers start at $250 usd. Good Luck I hope you find this very helpful!

Get it fixed by the other parties insurers. It will and should not cost you a cent. Failing that there are several non insured loss recoverers out there. Just search online.

How to clean up white spot of black bumper CRV ?

There are a couple after-market products for do-it-yourselfers for repairing minor bumps, discolorations, dents, and the likes.
If your white spots got there as a result of a scratch from another car with white body color, you could find some chemical-based product to clean it out.
However, most of these plastic/vinyl bumpers are all made black by the manufactures. And they are supposed to be repainted in colors exactly matching the concerned vehicle.
Visit a reputable autoparts store, and look in the 'body section'. You should find 'spot/scratch remover' in about two different quantities. If unable to locate this in the store, ask for assistance.
