SOURCE: timing belt marking

The timing marks are just above the cams at the "twelve o'clock position"

If necessary, align the timing marks.
NOTE When aligning the cam pulleys with the seal plate marks, align the left cam pulley “I” mark and the right cam pulley on the “E” mark.

WARNING When aligning the timing marks, do not turn the timing gear counterclockwise. Damage to the engine will occur.

Who did the work? take it back. If it's DIY double check your work. Knoking as in metalic engine , or knocking as in gas preignition. If gas preignition, timing belt is off a few notches. If it's similar to this google: 2003 kia sorento interference engine
You may have valve timing off so much that your pistons are running into the valves. Bad news!

Timing belt instalation 03 kia spectra need the diagram for it

Installing timing belt is not very hard. Install the timing belt onto the pulleys, as follows, crankshaft pulley first, then the idler pulley, exhaust camshaft pulley, intake camshaft pulley, and the tensioner pulley. Just make sure the timing marks are set exact and not got moved from its actual position.------ If in-case,you missed the timing marks. Then you need to align it exactly, other wise there will be problem.------ For timing belt replacing and timing belt diagram, click the link below:--- http://carbeltrouting.blogspot.com/2011/10/2003-kia-spectra-timing-belt.html ------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I need the diagram for a 2006 kia sorento timing chain markings, (the chain has no coloured links)

The Sorento has a timing BELT not a chain. Here is an image of the 3.5 litre engine & the timing marks. Note: special tools are required to hold the camshaft sprockets in place when belt is installed to prevent any movement....I hope this helps.

when i was working at an AUDI dealer, they way MYSELF did it was to use whiteout and make dots on the teeth of the belt and the gears before you pull the old one off. then transfer the marks by counting the teeth to know which marks go where and install new belt. if nothing has moved you should be fine. I dont think the sorento has an "interference" head, meaning if you mess up the marks by a tooth or so, you wont do any real engine damage. for future reference i suggest my whiteout technique!! racecarsteve.jpg
