Question about Hyundai Motor 2004 Sonata

2 Answers

My dealership told me that i have a cracked accessory drive belt and that it needs to be replaced. I can't afford to have it done right now and was wondering if i could find a diagram. My dad and boyfriend are willing to help me and they are fairly mechanically inclined. Can you help me?

Look up when you open the hood of the car... hopefully there is a sticker there that shows the routing of that serpentine belt... or before it breaks... make a diagram of where the belt goes

Serpentine belt tensioner pull

Belts only drive the water pump and other accessories and do not cause overheating. Have a pressure test done on the cooling system. Have a compression test done to check for head gasket or cracked head. Have a flow test done to check for blocked cores in radiator .check external fins of radiator to see if they are flaking off. Flushing radiators doesn't work because once the cores are blocked up there is no way to un block them. If you have a viscous fan hub have it check out as they stop driving after a period of time.

Inspection

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Rotate the auto tensioner clockwise to release tension, then remove the drive belt.

To install:
  1. Install drive belt (A). Route the belt over the components in the following order: Crankshaft pulley - A/C pulley - idler pulley - generator pulley - water pump pulley - P/S pump pulley - tensioner pulley.
  2. Rotate auto tensioner arm in the counter-clockwise moving auto tensioner pulley bolt with wrench.
  3. After putting belt on auto tensioner pulley, release the auto tensioner pulley slowly.

Change EGR Valve. Alternator in the way. Do I have to remove alt and how do I take serpentine belt off?

& 3.8L Engines
All of the belt driven accessories on the 3.3L and 3.8L engines are driven by a single serpentine belt. The belt tension is maintained by am automatic tensioner.

Belt Tension Inspection

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.

My tribute started making a clicking/rattling noise near the belt that has gotten louder within a day. It is not the oil. Would you have an idea of what it could be?

Drive belt needed to be replaced on mine... Mazda dealership told me that the manufacturer knows that the drive belt is not strong enough... when I ran the air conditioner it was horrible sounding!!! It took the dealership repair 2 days to figure it out!

My 94 accord needs a lot of work. My family has had it for 8 years and has put over 120,000 miles on it. The current odometer reading is 195,000 miles. It has never had major engine work (believe it or...

i would recommend at least 1, 3, and 4 right away. Then 7, 2, 5. before these repairs are done, go to an auto store and get some radiator stop leak. If the crack is small enough it will at least slow the leak so that way you can get more life out of it. but if you choose to go for a while without replacing the rack and pinion, you may want to drive as little as possible, and when you do drive, drive very easily so as not to exert excess wear on the worn systems.

Fan Belt replaced a week ago on a Saturn Vue

Wow $151.99 even if they did changed the belt, that seams a bit to high. Yes there right though the belt can look oil after a few days and a few miles of driving, most places give you the old belt and ask you what you'ld like done with it such as to keep it in your trunk just in case of an emergency that you break a belt. The other thing you can look is on the inside of the belt where the ribs are and see if there are a lot of cracks and if the belt is hard and not soft. Old belt's over a year get's hard and crack lines on the inside. Good luck and most places like Auto Zone will help change the belt's for you with no extra charge when you buy it there. Good luck

Accessories belt replacement

is the belt glazed? between age and miles it would be a good choice to replace it any way. i would also replace the tensioner. as far as the timing belt goes, i thought they suggested that one a 100k, but it sounds like a good price at least here in california.

I think you have a engine accessory drive belt problem, check the belt, is it cracked or shiny looking? if so replace it with a factory belt, they aftermarket belts many times fit poorly and make noise again very quickly.
