I have the very same problem - Were you able to solve it ?

I've cleaned the Idle control valve several times and it seems to help overall but definitely not the cause ! - I think it might be the Coolant temp. sensor - have you tried changing that ?, did it work ?

Thanks mate - please let me know at asem2k@yahoo.com if you find a solution

SOURCE: problem restarting my 1.6 ,8v-(1999) renault clio.

If engine will not turn over after head refit, make sure all timing marks are aligned when timing belt was refitted. If it will not turn over using socket/spanner on crank ,then thats the problem.

After I changed the rings and done the head of my renault clio I started the car and it went on a high ref/idling why? Is there some settings to be done to get the idling to normal

It could be that your throttle body is need cleaned , it could all carboned up , get a tin of carb cleaner and a clean rag and an old tooth brush , firstly spray the carb cleaner into the air intake of the throttle body and give it a good clean with the tooth brush and then wipe it clean with your rag , I hope this helps

Sounds like idle air control valve sticking. If i remember correctly, the idle air control valve is built into the throttle body. This is the part that connects between the air filter and inlet manifold. take this off and clean thoroughly with carb cleaner. if this does not work, then renew part.

Cold start idle (fast idle) does not work

you need to replace your idle control sensor. I would take the time to pull the throtle body off its very simple, and clean it out real well while your in the area.

I have a Renault Megane 1.4 16v on a 04 plate, the engine revs itself from normal tick over speed to approx. 2000 revs. The garage have fitted a new ECU and re mapped it, throtle body, potentiometer on...

Have you tried the idle control valve, these can stick & cause the engine to rev high. Have had this problem on a few cars, a Vectra being the worst, but quick clean with brake cleaner & good as new.
