2002 Ford Heating Issue

All of the sudden, I can’t get any heat and there is a squeaking sound when I turn on the fan or turn up its speed. However, I can get some heat after several minutes by switching the dial to the defrost settings.

The highest fan speed setting bypasses a device that reduces voltage to the fan for the lower speeds.
This is a fairly common failure but the actual mounting of this device can be anywhere; firewall in the engine compartment or under the dashboard.

The heat in my 02 explorer is working. When I turn it on, a knocking noise starts.

Sounds like something in the fan. If you turn the fan speed up, does the knocking speed increase? If so, pull the fan, maybe soemthing came loose or stick in it.
If speed does not change, you may have an air direction door issue. You just need to investigate. Surgery to air boxes is fragile and difficult, you may want to have a shop do this for you...

Where is the cooling fan speed sensor on my 2002 trailblazer?

if by cooling you mean heater or ac system fan then it is behind glove box near the blower motor. depending on the type of heating system you have it could have 6 wires for manual heating or 3 wires for automatic heating

i think your radiator is leaking, or you need to add water to it, or you don't have enough antifreeze. i have an idea about the air conditioning... you most likely have a coolant leak. not enough coolant in your car. or your coolant is old...

Rear cooling and heating blower motor does not work

its not in the headliner. its under the side panel in the rear on drivers side. you half to remove the panel on the inside just above the rear tire. since the moter runs sometime i would replace the blower motor resistor first cause these are known for going bad and its in the same area as the blower motor. this resistor controls the fan speeds and if its gone bad the fan dont run right. plus its alot cheaper than blower motor. once you have replaced the resistor you can turn the fan on and see if its a fixya before putting the panel back in place.
