Question about 1991 Honda Civic
Shut off for a couple minutes check engine light is off and every thing is fine except loud noise from belt area could that be a bearing in the altternator to trigger the check engine light?
No the check engine light has to do with a sensor problem mostly,Or on that old of a car yhey will come on all so if some vacum hose is off or develop a leak. How many miles are on thecar? Has it ever been Fully tune u?, Putting new (Spark) Plugs end wires on it, I hate to tell you that your (Problem) Can lead to a lot of different things.If it is a high mileledge car. hello first check your idle with the car running foot on brake see were your rpm reading is if your below 500rpm check your label underhood for your curb idle setting second see if theres a adjustment screw you can increase were your gas cable lever rest against your set screw underhood if you feel confident enough remove your iac motor idle air control valve if the bore were the end of the pintle extracts out to close has varnish builup our carbon it will stick creating vacuum leak type senario causing stalling rough idle sometimes even no start conditions good luck

You have 2 codes, 8 and 5, code 8 is the TDC sensor, this would cause a no start, the code 5 is for the MAP sensor, it may be disconnected or defective.

is your ac compressor located on the left side as well and also try your ac if its not blowing to cold the rattling could be your ac clutch on the compressor if that is you will have to get a new clutch kit from your local auto parts store to fix it

It sounds like the timing belt is off a tooth. Did you have it scanned to see what code was in the computer? These engines will surge when the cam timing is off.
