SOURCE: 1966 Ford Mustang Gas Guage not working

I had a similar problem. In my 1966 Mustang gas tank, the fuel pick-up was on a "float." My float developed a hole, filled with gasoline, and sank to the bottom of the tank, therefore, the gauge always read empty, but the car ran well. All the other gauges of course worked correctly. The repair was a relatively simple soldering job (after removing the float from the tank), but if that is indeed the problem, ensure all the gasoline is drained from the float before beginning the soldering job.

SOURCE: Gas Gauge not reading correctly

The most likely culprit is the sending unit in the tank. They are relatively easy to change, as long as you don't have much fuel in the tank. It's a mechanical unit that has a float that raises and lowers with the fuel level, however with age, the floats can develop leaks and no longer float, of the electronic portion of the unit can go bad and not register the proper level. They are replaced and an entire unit, so it doesn't matter which happened, you will need to change the fuel tank sending unit.

SOURCE: Fuel gauge registers empty after fill up

It sounds to me like you have a short in your wiring harness at you fuel tank. there is a plug on top of your fuel tank that controls you fuel pump and your sending unit that tells you how much fuel is in the tank. This plug can be a real p.i.a to get to on some vehicles, you may have to take the vehicle to a shop to fix it, if you are not mechanically inclined.

I have a 1964 mustang with a six cyl. all gauges dont work. put in a new oil pressure sending unit, has a new fuel tank with sending unit, new temp. sending unit wires are all hooked up. I need help finding...

There is a voltage regulator on the back of the instrument cluster printed circuit board. Chances are this has burned out if no gauges work. You'll need to remove the instrument cluster to get to it.

Fuel gauge in 1965 Mustang Coupe is not working

on the front of the tank, meaning toward the front of the car, there is the sending unit, it is round and has a fuel line and one wire attached to it. disconnect the wire from the tank and temperarily ground it, then turn the key on and watch the gauge. if it goes to full you will know that the problem is it the tank. if it does nothing then you will have to trace the wire or check the guage.

Fuel reads empty at all times

this problem is caused by a defective fuel gauge sending unit, this sender is located inside the fuel tank and is sold with the fuel pump assembly as one piece, around $200

Sending unit died. can be expencive to replace since most sending units are integral with the fuel pump now. lots of labor too. Better to use the trip odometer till you can afford a day without your car and a $600.00 +labor repair bill.

Fuel gauge not working on 2005 ford mustang

Sending unit is in gas tank. usually as an assembly with the electric pump. These aren't cheap either, If you know a mechanic you can trust ask him how much to install a new one, I can get them wholesale for less than two hundred dollars, but of course retail probably more like 250.00 Hope this helps you!
