How do i remove the rear passenger rotor? On a 05 chevy suburban?

It is being held on by the parking brake,
how do i adjust (loosen) the parking brake to release the rotor?

How to adjust parking brake on 1993 chevy lumina ?




  • Adjustments




  1. Apply service brake pedal three times with a force of approximately 175 lbs.


  2. Fully apply and release parking brake three times. Full application may require two pedal strokes.


  3. Raise and support vehicle, then mark relationship between wheel and axle flange.


  4. Check parking brake pedal assembly for full release as follows:






    1. Turn ignition switch to On position.


    2. If ``Brake\'\' lamp is illuminated, operate manual brake release and pull downward on front parking brake cable to remove slack from pedal assembly.





  1. Remove rear wheel and tire assemblies, then install two lug nuts to retain each rotor assembly.


  2. If two parking brake levers on both calipers are not against lever stops on caliper housings, check for binding in rear cables and/or loosen cables at adjuster until both left and right levers are against their stops.


  3. Tighten parking brake cable at adjuster until either the left or right lever begins to move off the stop, then loosen adjustment until lever moves back barely touching stop.


  4. Operate parking brake several times to check adjustments. A firm pedal feel should be obtained by pumping pedal two full strokes and rear wheels should not rotate forward when parking brake is fully applied.


  5. Install wheel and tire assemblies, aligning marks made in step 3.

  • Remove the center console covering the parking brake lever. Locate the parking brake lever between the drivers seat and the front passenger seat. Put the parking brake lever in the lowest position.

    Turn the cable adjuster locknut to make the nut loose. Find the nut at the base of the parking brake lever.

    Raise your GT rear wheels using a jack and support the rear wheels using jack stands. Remove both rear wheels using a tire iron to loosen and take off the lug nuts. Take off the tire from the rods by hand.

    Get underneath the car and remove the rubber hole plugs from the brake rotors. Locate the rotors on the underneath inside of the wheel wells.

    Take off the brake calipers with a screwdriver, but do not disconnect the brake fluid lines.

    Use a pry bar to push up on the parking brake self adjuster wheel. Locate this next to the brake caliper and it looks like a star wheel. Rotate this wheel until the rotors will not turn.

    Turn the adjuster wheel five notches in the opposite direction. Reinstall the calipers and wheels. Lower your GT using the jack and remove the jack stands from the rear wheels.

    How do I adjust my parking brake on my 1996 Nissan 2300 pick up?


    Do you have drum or disc brakes?
    If you have drum brakes then you will need to jack up the rear of the vehicle until the tire has lost contact, remove the tire and hub to check the brake shoe lining. If it is good, then you will replace the hub and tire, if they are bad, you will want to replace the shoes. Once you have reinstalled the hub and tire you will have to use a brake spoon to manually adjust the rear brake. There will be a small black rubber cover that is oblong, you will remove it and that will allow you access to the adjuster. You will turn the adjuster until you can bearly spin the rear tire. I would recommend doing this to both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle. If you have disc brakes, then you will want to remove the rotor and under the rotor you will see a set of small brake shoes that are used to grasp and hold as parking brakes. If they are good then you will adjust them accordingly

    I changed the rear rotors on a 2004 dodge caravan. i had to loosen the self adjuster on the parking brake to remove the rotor. should i re adjust the self adjuster or will it reset itself? i manually reset...


    okay. In order to change the rear brake rotors, you DID NOT have to loosen off the adjuster to get it off. sometimes between the rotor, and the hub it sits against, corrosion develops and this will cause the rotor to be "stuck" so to be speak. A good hit in between the wheel studs with a hammer, a good solid hit, sometimes multiple time using a good penetrating fluid like WD40 will loosen the rotors. and in order to set the parking brake cable yes the guy did have to remove the rotor as there is a spring in the way of the adjuster. The spring there holds the adjuster in place from backing or getting any tighter upon moving forward or rear ward. So please next time just use a hammer in between the wheel studs, i'm sure you will see it pop off easily. If not, then hit the face of the rotor from behind which is the caliper side. You are going to replace them anyway so damage won't matter. That usually works too. good luck!

    How to replace the rear brake pads on a 1995 through 2001 Ford Explorer The system utilizes a drum-in-hat type rear brake rotor. The integral drum allows the use of a drum-and-shoe type parking brake system. All other components are similar to their front disc brake components Remove the two bolts on either side of the brake hose with the rubber boots. Do not remove the four bolts where the axle ties in. The two bolts to be removed require a 10mm socket/wrench. Loosen the pads from the caliper Rotor Removal In order to take the rotors off (replace with new or have them machined), it is best to loosen the emergency brake shoes. To do this, behind the rotors, in the back there is a rubber plug, remove that and you can use a screw driver to engage the teeth of the adjusting screw, turn it clockwise to loosen, usually 10-20 teeth. Usually this means turn it downward. After this, it may still be difficult to get the rotors off without tapping them. Use a rubber mallet and hit them from behind. Before really whacking the rotor, make sure you have loosened the adjusting screw enough. It may take heavy swings of the rubber hammer to do this. It will eventually break loose. Parking Brake You might want to check the parking brake while you are here. To remove:
    • Remove the rear disc brake rotor.
    • Remove the outboard return spring.
    • Remove the adjusting screw spring.
    • Remove the rear brake shoe hold-down spring and pin.
    • Remove the brake shoe adjusting screw and nut.
    • Remove the front brake shoe hold-down spring and pin.
    • Remove both parking brake shoes and the inboard return spring.
    • Check the parking brake lever for excessive wear and replace as necessary.
    To install:
    • Position the front parking brake shoe to the backing plate and install the hold-down pin and spring.
    • Install the rear parking brake shoe with the inboard return spring.
    • Position the brake shoe adjuster screw and nut on the shoes and install the rear shoe hold-down pin and spring.
    • Install the brake shoe adjuster spring.
    • Install the outboard return spring.
    • Adjust the parking brake shoes and install the rotor, caliper and wheel.
    • Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm).
    ADJUSTMENT
    • Measure the inside of the drum portion of the rear brake rotor
    • Remove the rear disc brake rotor.
    • Using Brake Adjustment Gauge D81L-1103-A or equivalent, measure the inside diameter of the drum portion of the rear disc brake rotor.
    • Subtract 0.020 in. (0.508mm) from the first measurement, adjust the brake shoes to that size
    • Adjust the parking brake adjuster screw until the outside diameter of the parking brake shoes measures 0.020 in. (0.508mm) less than the drum measurement.
    • Install the rear disc brake rotor.
    Reassembly Reassembly is easy. Put new or machined rotors back on by sliding them over the lugs (they should slide on easily.) Loosen bleeder valve (having a catch bottle handy is good). Push calipers in slowly (using a c-clamp or large channel lock pliers), close bleeder valve. Put on pads. Lubricate metal clips with small amount of anti-seize. Re-adjust the emergency brake by turning the opposite direction from loosening. Refill the brake master cylinder

    Remove rear rotors


    There is likely a rust ridge on the parking drum area of the rotor. There should be a round black rubber plug on the rotor, Pop it out,and loosen the parking brake adjuster screw. the rotor should then come off.try turning the rotor as you remove it-it may help.

    2004 kia sorento cannot get rear brake rotor off. have removed screws and it is loose but wont come off.


    make sure parking brake is off
    take off caliper
    pemove rotor
    if the park brake shoes inside rotor are tight then you have to loosen the adjuster to remove
    theres a hole in the rotor rotate it up and look through hole until you see the adjuster wheel loosen by rotating adjuster with flat blade screw driver

    2005 chevy sub 1500 has a intermittent clanging sound from the rear of vehicle. E-brake recently stopped working, 45000 miles. any ideas, and is this covered under any recall?


    check u joints and rear differential --or brake cable damaged and hanging if u have disc on rear check behind rotor for e brake system if drum check springs and adjustment also adjustment under drivers- side frame rail no recalls or service bulletins for rear of 05 burbs

    Metal scaping sound from the rear brake - pads are


    Parking brake assembly inside the rear rotor/drum is worn out and scraping the drum. The brake cable could be sticking on, and if so will need replaced.

    Parking brake pedal goes to floor


    Hello;
    The parking brake cables may be stretched and in need of adjustment. Follow the cables along to a nut. Then you can tighten the adjusters up on both sides until you have the proper tension. Also make certain none of the brackets are bent or broken that the cables ride through.
