How do you know when its the timing chain on a 2001 chevy cavalier

left side? when talking about left and right on a car its always referred from the drivers seat... so drivers side is left passenger side is right. if the noise is coming from the passenger side it could be a timing chain but more likely to be a water pump or idler pulley for the serpentine belt. take off serp belt and start car. if noise is gone u have a bad pulley or alternator or power steering pump.. hope this helps

A loud metal to metal clanging noise in the front of the car

Are you sure the struts and strut bearings are installed correctly and all fasteners are tight? Did you check your stabilizer links? Did you check your stabilizer frame bushings? Did you check your tie rod ends? Did you check the lower ball joints? Did you check the control arm bushings? Did you check for loose or missing brake caliper bolts?

I am sure that a thorough inspecton of the front steering and suspension system will turn up something. However, it is really hard to accurately guess from this end without more to go on than just a "metal clanging noise"....there are way too many things that can fit that desription.

On my 2000 blazer. every time i hit the gas pedal i here a clanging noise, and if i hit the breaks hard i here the same clanging noise. what could this be??

Sounds like something loose is swinging with the stop and go momentum. Look underneath for something loose, like exhaust. Have someone listen close by while you drive it slow in forward and reverse, to try to pin point it.

Jeep wranger, clanging from front end when turning

Probably the CV joints just behind the brakes on each wheel. Try jacking the car up so that the wheel on that side is clear of the ground, grasp the wheel and rotate it back and forth. Do you get that noise? The joints are not repairable, just replace both sides.

Like a clanging noise at the front left end of car aroud the wheel, it hapens when i turn left and right. it only clangs like once or twice then stops.

I'm afraid you're going to have to get down on your hands and knees, and inspect all the rubber bushes for the steering/suspension etc.
Also check the c.v. gators which are the rubber surrounds on the drive shafts.
Check for signs of leakage, or fresh oil/grease patches etc.
Basically, anything that looks suspicious.
It shouldn't be too difficult to spot.
Good luck with that:)
