Remove struts off celica sport 2000 boot for regassing

I can remove lower bolt but fear that if i unscrew top one i may not be able to replace it without further removal of structure.
the bolt head lies between the strut and the body of car. it can be turned usinf a thin spanner of appropriate size.

How do you replace the lower ball joints on a 2000 windstar?


According to Autozone.com, you must replace the whole control arm. Here is their procedure:
NOTE do not begin the removal procedure unless a new strut-to-lower arm nut, a new ball joint pinch bolt/nut and a new lower arm-to-front subframe bolt/nut are available.

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Do not use a hammer to separate the ball joint from the front wheel hub and spindle.



    WheelsLower arm strut nut and dished washer. Discard them.
  2. Place the steering wheel in the unlocked position.
    NOTE
    Do not allow the halfshaft to move outward. Over-extension of the halfshaft joint could result in separation of internal parts, causing failure of the halfshaft joint.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Use extreme care to not damage the ball joint boot seal.



    Lower arm ball joint nut and pinch bolt. Discard them.Lower arm from the front wheel knuckle



    Remove and discard the lower arm-to-front subframe bolt and nutRemove the lower arm from the vehicleTo install:
    1. Install or connect the following:

      Lower arm strut into the lower arm rear strut bushingLower arm into the front sub-frame bracketNew lower arm-to-front subframe nut and bolt. While holding the lower arm horizontal, tighten to 85-97 ft. lbs. (115-132 Nm).Ball joint stud-to-wheel hub and spindle, making sure that the ball stud groove is properly positioned.New lower arm ball joint pinch bolt and nut. Tighten to 46-52 ft. lbs. 62-71 Nm).
    2. Clean the lower arm strut threads to remove dirt and contamination.
    3. Install the dished washer with the dished side away from the lower arm rear strut bushing.
    4. Install the front suspension lower arm strut-to-strut nut and tighten to 85-97 ft. lbs. (115-142 Nm).
    5. Install the wheels.
    6. Lower the vehicle.

How do I replace rear strut and spring


Replace it as a unit. Strut, spring, strut mount all in one. It's called a quick strut. Raise car by the body not the wheel. Remove brake line (1 bolt) from strut lower. Remove 2 large bolts holding lower strut end. In the trunk 3 smaller bolts hold the strut mount (upper end) in place. DO NOT remove the single large nut at the top of the strut assembly. Wiggle the strut assembly out. Slide the new strut assembly in bolt it back in. Put wheel back on. Done.

How to replace rear shocks on a 86 Toyota celica gts?


This procedure can be found at autozone.com. You can register for free, listing make, model, year, and engine size. Find procedure under "repair guides". Good illustrations, too.
1. On liftback, remove rear speaker grilles. On coupe, remove suspension service hole cover or the speaker board (on rear deck by back window).

2Drum brakes or disc brakes? No matter: Do not break apart the brake lines. There is a clip on the strut to hold the brake line and it's connection to the rubber brake hose. Take the c-clip off and cut the brake line retainer with a hacksaw (careful of the brake line and hose). This way you won't have to worry about bleeding the brakes when done. Take the line out of the strut retainerclip. When re-installing, just use a zip tie to hod the brake line secure.
3. Loosen, but don't remove, the 19mm nut holding the suspension support to the strut (this is the larger center nut on top of strut at the deck by rear window.
4. Disconnect stabilizer bar at lower end of strut housing. You will need a 14mm wrench and a 3/16 (or equivalent metric size) allen wrench to hold the link steady while removing the nut.
5. Disconnect strut at the axle carrier-17mm size bolts.
6. At top, remove the three strut to body nuts-size 13mm., and remove the strut.
To put your new struts inside the coil spring, you will have to have a spring compressor. I don't have one, so after removing strut, took to a shop for that, cost was $20 for one side. Picked it up and installed it myself.
To install: Position assembly and tighten the upper strut to body nuts to 23 ft. lbs.
2. Tighten lower strut-to-carrier bolts to 119 ft. lbs..
3. Connect stabilizer bar to strut. Tighten the nut to 26 ft. lbs.
4. Tighten top strut holding nut to 36 ft. lbs. (the shop had already done this for me) and install dust cover.
5. Reconnect brake line and hose, and bleed the brakes, if you broke the line apart. If you didn't break the line apart and just cut the clip retainer, you will not have to bleed the brakes.
6. Lower the car and have rear wheel alignment checked.

If you have a spring compressor, and can do that procedure yourself, the instructions for it are found at autozone.com, along with the above that I have outlined.

I'm in the process of replacing the front struts on my wife's 2000 Lexus ES300. I'm looking for torque values for the three nuts at the top of the strut tower and for the two down the bottom of the strut....


  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Spring seat. Tighten the new upper strut retaining nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
  2. Remove the strut from the vise and disassemble the securing nuts and bolt.
  3. Rotate the upper support so the lowest bolt on the support aligns with the projection part of the lower spring.
  1. Install or connect the following:
  2. Strut and tighten the strut to body bolts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  • Strut to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts to 156 ft. lbs. (211 Nm).
To install:
  1. Install the lower ball joint onto the steering knuckle and tighten nut to 90 ft. lbs. (123 Nm). Install new cotter pin.

REMOVAL
1. Remove the package tray trim panel.
2. Remove the upper strut and spring assembly nuts.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Slide the brake hose clip off and position the brake hose aside.
5. If equipped with anti-lock brakes, remove the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) sensor bracket bolt.
6. Remove the lower strut and spring assembly bolts and the strut and spring assembly.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

FRONT SHOCKS


There are three bolts under the hood, then two bolts at the bottom of the strut assembly holding it to the steering knuckle. You may have another bolt holding the brake hose to the strut.

After the strut assembly is out, you MUST use a spring compressor to hold the springs before removing the top bearing nut. DON'T try this without one, you can be seriously injured!

I need step by step instructions to replace front struts.


1.Turn ignition to OFF position to place steering column in unlocked position.
2.Remove hub nut
3.Loosen, but do not remove, three top mount-to-shock tower
4.Raise vehicle on a hoist.
5.Remove tire and wheel assembly
6.Move brake caliper and wire out of the way
7.Remove brake rotor
8.Remove cotter pin from tie rod end stud and remove slotted nut.
Discard cotter pin and nut
9.remove tie rod from knuckle
10.Remove stabilizer bar link nut, and remove link from strut
11.Remove and discard lower arm-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt and nut. (A drift punch may be used to remove bolt.) Using a screwdriver, slightly spread knuckle-to-lower arm pinch joint and remove lower arm from steering knuckle.
12.Press halfshaft from hub
13.Remove shock absorber strut-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt. Using a large screwdriver, slightly spread knuckle-to-strut pinch joint, if required, for removal
14.Remove steering knuckle and hub assembly from shock absorber strut
15.Remove three top mount-to-shock tower nuts and remove strut and spring assembly from vehicle
16.Compress spring with Spring Compressor
17.Place 10mm box-end wrench on top of shock strut shaft and hold while removing top shaft retaining nut with a 21mm 6-point crow foot wrench and ratchet
18.Loosen Spring Compressor , then remove top mount bracket assembly, bearing plate assembly and spring.
INSTALLATION
1.Place a 10mm box-end wrench on top of shock strut shaft and hold while tightening top shaft retaining nut with a 21mm 6-point crow foot wrench and ratchet to 53-72 Nm (40-53 lb-ft).
2.Install strut and spring assembly and three top mount-to-shock tower nuts
3.Install steering knuckle and hub assembly to shock absorber strut.
4.Install a new shock absorber strut-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt. Tighten to 98-132 Nm (73-97 lb-ft).
5.Install halfshaft into hub
6.Install lower arm to steering knuckle ensuring that ball stud groove is properly positioned and boot seal is not damaged. Install a new pinch bolt and nut. Tighten to 53-72 Nm (40-53 lb-ft).
7.Install stabilizer bar link to strut and install a new stabilizer bar link nut. Tighten to 77-103 Nm (57-75 lb-ft).
8.Install tie rod end onto knuckle.
9.Install a new tie rod end slotted nut. Tighten to 31-47Nm (23-34 lb-ft).
10.Install a new slotted nut retaining cotter pin.
11.Install brake rotor
12.Install brake caliper
13.Install tire and wheel assembly
14.Tighten three top mount-to-shock tower nuts to 30-40Nm (23-29 lb-ft).
15.Lower vehicle and tighten hub nut to 230-275 Nm (170-202 lb-ft)
16.Depress brake pedal several times prior to moving vehicle.

Negative camber


Hi...
On your Celica.
Check if the Strut is NOT bent.
Or if the car was not involved on accidente on the front.
Check the Comdittion of the Lower Ball joint, LOwer control arm.

Check if the Camber in your car is adjustable.
Removing the Tire and removing the Bolt that hold the Strut in position. If the Holes in the Strut are Like Oval, is adjustable.
But if NOT. Some Autoparts SELL a Camber kit. That include
New bolt and washers.

But if you Don't want to spend money on the KIT.
Remove the Tire , Remove the 2 Bolt that hold the Strut.
And make the Holes A little oval the holes .
Move a little at front and rear. For make the strut adjustable.
POSITIVE or NEGATIVE..

Replacing boot struts


Hi GB52. Just done this myself, should take 15 minutes perside max. 1/ remove rear seat cushion by bumping the centre back and up, lower the back rests down. 2/ Unscrew the striker plate from the seat side bolster and the bolt at the lower edge of the bolster Removing the bolster takes a bit of fiddling. 3/ use a flat-head screwdriver to release the strut spring clips - use the new ones as a guide. 4/ remove the old strut and fit the new one. reinstall the bolster, bolt and strike plate. note; when replacing the rear seat cushion, ensure the seat belts are fed through first and check that the seat retaining clips properly engage the floor panel brackets.
