Question about 2000 Ford Expedition

Open Question

Tried changing end shift knob on 2001 ford excursion and now it won't start

I bought an aftermarket shift knob and after taking off the factory end knob (where the OD button is) and kind of semi ripping out the 3 wires, trying to put the new one on, my truck won't start now. Are the OD and cruise control wires tied into the factory alarm settings? Basically what do I need to do to fix this?

SOURCE: cruise control fails to engage on '03 ford sport trac

Th is is how I fixed mine! Down on the brake pedal there is a small plastic box about 1 1\2 * 1 1\2 in size. It's called the brake stop light, I think. This part disengages the cruise when the brake is pressed. Not sure on it's other uses! Remove the clip from the part where it attatches the the pedal. For more working room you can remove the plastic keeper. The box has three keepers on it. Pry them out gently to remove the top. Two of the copper pieces inside will have contacts on them about the size of a match stick head. Take them out and clean them with an eraser. This solved my problem, I hope it solves yours. Let Me KNOW!

2001 ford excursion 4x4 troubleshooting

the transfer case shifter linkage may be loose or binding. Check the shift fork for signs of cracks or wear.
Damaged internal gears or viscous coupler prevent the transfer case from shifting into "4-low" or "4-high" drives.
and in evry 15000 miles need to change oil.

I have the viper remote start in my 2010 f250 and the remote start will work just fine but when not using the remote start and just using the key to start the truck it won't start

Common complaint - the aftermarket equipment is interfering with the factory equipment. ALL of the vehicle manufacturers have published Technical Service Bulletins warning their techs about these problems. The aftermarket equipment can cause everything from no-crank/no-start to misfire and transmission shifting problems. Not only do the aftermarket systems themselves have problems, but they usually also cause serious damage to the factory equipment, especially wiring harnesses due to shoddy installation and "butchering" of the harnesses.

Here is a "snapshot" of one of these manufacturer publications:

It might be as simple as stepping on the brake before you shift gears from Park to Drive. It won't shift unless you step on the brake while shifting. I have made this mistake many times.

Removing Factory Gear Shift Knob for 2001 Jetta

On my 2000 jetta glx, I had to replace both the shift knob and boot as one. It is built as one unit. You have to pull the boot up over the shift knob, break/bend a clip to "unlock" the shift knob then pull up. I hope the new knob you got has the boot built in and comes with a new clip.
