Question about 2003 Hummer H2

Abs Light On

The abs light came on yeserday in my 2003 hummer h2 with 60,000 miles. Any reasons/easy fix for this? I have read that the sensors could be dirty. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    What scan tool do you reccomend? any that are inexpensive/easy to find? thanks for posting

    The ABS light went off on it's own today! -very weird-we have had minus 30 degree celcius temperatues as of late here though and there is lots of snow/dirt/salt on the roads-,maybe that had something to do with it? Also I used the ABS for the first time since I have owned the truck (1 1/2 years) on ice the day before the light came on

If you could plugg in with a scan tool it would tell you where to look.
i find many times that its just a wheel sensor wire .
so that is where i would start to look

    to do good dianostice work you need a one that will read live data streams and the cheap ones only give you codes. but you might get lucky and it has set a hard code and it would pick that up.

    and even walmart sells the cheap ones and they do work well to read codes.

    when you told me about the cold weather and the antilock working many different thought wer coing threw my head. i know we could guess all day . moisture in the wheel sensors. air lock in the antilock solonoids . i think we need to wait to see what happens .

    im sure it will come on again and then we can go from there.

Traction active message coming on in a 2003 hummer h2


Hello! This is usually the result of a wheel speed sensor issue. Most technicians look for WSS fault codes, to decide which one is failed, but if there are no fault codes, they don't know where to look. The trick, is with the scantool hooked up, watch the ABS solenoids and see which ones activate during the traction event. If the Wheel Speed Sensor is acting up, it can confuse the ABS module into thinking that wheel is slipping and it will activate the ABS pump and solenoids for that wheel, to try and slow it down.
With the stability system disabled, it won't try and slow the "slipping" wheel down, which is why it won't do it when disabled.
and the noise you hear is probably the ABS motor and solenoids, which are mounted on the Left Frame Rail, below the drivers seat (often heard at the firewall).
There was a bulletin to replace the Yaw Rate Sensor and update the ABS Software, which is probably where the $400 went, and it may have needed it, but obviously that wasn't the problem. I beleive that the issue lies withing the Wheel speed sensors.
the most common symptom of speed sensor failures is premature ABS activation, but I have in some instances see it cause Traction Control events take place as well. Here is a service bulletin for unwanted ABS activation:

My abs and brake lights stays on and speed start to work after 35 miles.why? or where is that sensor?


It is your speed sensor in the rear end...it is used for the ABS system, as well as low speed speedometer readings. I have had the same problem. It will cause the BRAKE and ABS lights to light as well as affect the speedo under 35 mph. It is an easy fix, and can be done by a DIYer or a shop for about $100.00.

Abs light came on and a tc with line through it came on


when you have antilock "problem " on this vehicle you automatically get t\c light, I fixed this problem for a friend when the tire rubbed through one of his abs sensor cables .. just re-connected it don't spend $500 at a "RELIABLE" shop if you can fix this yourself....they will never tell you how easy it might be to repair!!

Yes, The light should clear after fix the problem. Check the connection on the sensors. Theres 4, one at each wheel. If you have air in the lines the ABS light will come on. To bleed go left rear, right front, right rear, left front. Don't let the reservoir go dry. Brake fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles

theres dust or muck on the drive shafts and they have a ring of teeth on the ends near the wheels they get clogged up and the pick up sensor cant read it. or.. theres a loose wire on one of your 4 abs sensors on each wheel

the 1st thing you need to find out is what ABS/trac control system trouble code you have, but based on what u have said you may have a defective wheel speed sensor, there are four and they are quite expensive so I would spend the diagnostic time and have the dealer test the ABS/Traction control for the code.

YOU NEED TO HAVE ABS CONTROLLER SCANNED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES..THE SYSTEM HAS DETECTED A FAULT..A GOOD SCAN WILL YOU LEAD DOWN THE PATH TO FIXING THE PROBLEM..YOU CAN SEE IF WHEEL SPEED SENSORS ARE NOT WORKING,IF YOU CAN'T COMMUNICATE WITH CONTROLLER,ETC..LET ME KNOW WHAT IS FOUND
