Check your coolant level in the radiator and then add to the resevior ...you may have a leak in the reservior or in one of the hoses

Sounds like you have a thermostat that is failing to open. This is one of a few things it could be however the most likely with the information given.

We just bought a 2001 Ford Windstar and it makes a thinking noise in the front right, what could that be? I was told a u-joint but do they make that sound? I thought maybe a spring

Hello Ataya Mickelson,

I'm thinking... you meant ticking...??

Yes they (UNIVERSAL JOINTS) do...
but I pulled up your car on-line and IT APPEARS
you have CV-Joints
(on your "half shafts" (axle, each side)).

So do CV-joints (constant velocity joints) generally always start with a faint ticking... (if dry or hot even squeal) ... these sounds can get a LOT LOUDER ... and quite dangerous.

These joints might progress to grinding and even banging...
or simply FAIL and come completely apart (catastrophic).

Something that should NOT BE IGNORED
.

PARTS are not expensive (see below):

Thinking has always been one of my travails... problems & joys
(when done properly)... but regardless of how well or poorly I have done it... It has always been completely SILENT...
(I'm just saying).

Best regards... hope this helps!!

I have a ford windstar which start but does not accelerate fully.

More infromation may be helpful. If your van runs fine at low speeds but will not run properly or shift correctly at speeds of 50 mph or better I would suspect a clogged cataletic converter. If this was helpful please leave good feedback if not please repost with more infromation

My 2001 Ford Windstar van seems to be using alot of coolant daily

Possible coolant leak on hot engine parts causing it to evaporate as it leaks. That would definitely invade the cabin air. You would need to carefully check under the hood with the engine warmed up and running.

Also could be a headgasket failure between coolant channels and a combustion chamber. This latter problem sometimes shows itself as vapor at the tailpipe after there should be no more visible. You may also detect the odor of coolant there too.

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar SEL, when the weather is nice van drives great, no problems. BUT, when it is raining, (or I go through the carwash) the transmission feels like it is slipping. As soon as it...

Sounds like you might have some bad spark plug wires. With motor running, try spraying some water with a spray bottle on the wires and see if any of the wires are arcing to anything, (blue spark)

No heat in 99 ford windstar

Check the coolant level. If it's low, what you describe will happen. There is not sufficient coolant to flow through the heater core at idle. At 60mph the water pump is spinning quickly, managing to get some coolant through the heater core, so you get heat until the rpm's drop at idle. If it is due to low level, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again, as you may have a leak.

Windstar 2001 had it since new. over 120,000 miles suddenly started stalling cuople months ago had alternator replaced, bearings anything on the serpentine belt incl oil and water pump checked or replaced....

The problem with your van is the CAM Sensor, I believe the noise you are hearing is kind of a chirping sound. I just had mine fixed (12/19/09) it was about $150 for parts and labor from a local Mech. not a dealer.

ABS and brake on 2001 Ford Windstar come on randomly

Do you mean the van is actually braking like a Starsky and Hutch move or that the warning lights indicate that they are on? If its lights then you may be low on brake fluid. Maybe a module leak
