The fuel filter is located in the pressure line that runs from the fuel tank to the engine, near to the fuel tank.
Keep the engine off for few hours before replacing the filter, to get rid of some pressure in the lines.

The ck engine light should not be ignored, what sensor was shown to be bad ? Have it scanned again and replace the sensor that is bad if it still runs rough you might want to consider a tune up. Plugs, wires, fuel and air filter's and clean the throttle body with some gumout. It could also be the IAC motor Idle Air Control. Good Luck

SOURCE: 2002 Monte Carlo SS headlights won't come on.

Hi: If your sure the Head Lights are Good, Then Open your Hood and Reack inside where your head Lights are on each side and Thee will be a Electric Plug with 3 Terminals on your Plug ,Pull The Head Light Socket of and on a few Times on each side Many Times they build up some Corrosion and are Not Making a Good connection. If this Does'nt Work Check to see if your Rear Tail Lights come on with the Head Light Switch On. ALSO Have your Battery Checked to See if its GOOD and ALL the Connection are Clean and Tight. If this does'nt Help you Might have to Replace your Head Light Swith, Which can be a Pain to Change.ALSO See if your Head Lights Come on When you turn your Bright lights on, If they don't . You'll need to Replace your Head Light Switch .
I Hope this Will Help you to find your Problem and Help you get back to Having Headlights. Please Let Me Know By Voting or By Message that This Has Helped. Thanks: From the WYOCWBOY

SOURCE: I have a 2000 monte carlo ss 3800 series.

The problem might be your Vats security system. This causes the car to either "not start" or "shut down" while running, or start for 5 seconds and then die. (depending on the system) If the security light flashes, i guarantee that this is what the problem is. 1st trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year.

Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. For a list of cars effected by this problem. See the NEWROCKIES link on the right side of their page.........

----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey **** system out of your car all together. Good info on both sites

My 85 monte carlo ss does not go into drive until bout 3500 rpm why is that

If your automatic transmission fluid level is correct (check it first) ie.:with engine running, in park, engine at normal operating temprature, check dipstick. If OK: then it might be a dirty (clogged) transmission filter. Service the transmission, replace the filter and fluid.

2003 Monte Carlo SS high idle

Do you have a scan tool that you can see sensor data ? What are fuel trims showing ? Is the computer add fuel because of a lean condition ? Are the O2 sensors switching , do you know what that is ? Can a scan tool communicate with the pcm ? If so probably not a bad PCM .What are the IAC valve counts ? Can the PCM control the IAC valve ? Suggest you take it to a qualified repair shop that know's how to diagnose , an not just replace parts .

My 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo ss has a miss. Rpm gauge jumps up an down while driving. Has new air filter, plugs an wires. Other suggestions?

Stop by any good parts store and have them do an OBII scan (fault scan) Most will do it FREE. They'll pull codes and identify what is causing your "miss"

The Starter silenoid is probably what the problem is. And the knocking could that be a loose starter? The two problems doesn't seem connected.
